The 2008 Easter event started on 18 March 2008, and is still going on. Players are rewarded a chocatrice cape, among other things, for completing it.

Walkthrough

Starting

Players have to make their way south of Falador, near the Rimmington Mine to the Easter Bunny's rabbit hole. To start the event, players have to investigate into the hole.

The four egg designs.

The Easter Bunny's Bouncer will ask the player to first run around Asgarnia to find 3 chocolate eggs.

The eggs are confirmed to be located in at least the following places: (there are at least 9; you only need 3).

South and East:

  1. In the middle of Rimmington mine on a wheelbarrow
  2. On the Mysterious Statue west of the Port Sarim fishing store
  3. Port Sarim on a barrel on the boat to Karamja
  4. On a rock northeast of Port Sarim near the stone wall
  5. The second floor of Draynor's Wise Old Man's house, on a book shelf

North:

  1. In gem store in Falador, on the counter
  2. Furnace in Falador
  3. The second floor of the party room, at the bar
  4. On the outstretched hand of the Saradomin Statue to the north of Falador

(The three locations in italics are closest to the hole).

Returning the eggs

After you have found the 3 eggs, you have to return them to the Easter Bunny's hole. The bouncer will thank you and tell you to come in and see the Easter bunny. Enter the hole and go and see the easter bunny (he is north-west of the entrance). He will explain that the critters have eaten the chocolate while he was gone, and that he needs to make more eggs with the eggs you have brought him. He will ask you if you know what a cockatrice is. Say yes. He says he is going to make a 'Choc-atrice'.

The incubator.

Grab a cockatrice egg from the pile nearby and dip it into the large bowl of 'Molten Chocolate' (resembling a chocolate pool in the middle of the room), to receive a Chocatrice egg. You then have to incubate the egg in the eastern area of the hole. You will need coal, water and buckets but they are all supplied. Place the egg into the incubator and it will automatically start up. Then grab 24 buckets off one of the two tables. Click on the pile of coal to automatically start filling all of your buckets with coal. Stop it by walking away when you have 12 buckets full (3 rows). Do the same for the water pool across from the coal. Once you have 12 buckets each, click on the incubator coal scuttle to add the coal (You will automatically fill the scuttle until it is 12 buckets full). Do the same for the incubator water scuttle. Go to the other side of the Incubator and click on the incubator controls. You have to adjust the temperature to match the blue arrow on the dial by adding coal and water using the buttons respectively. It might take you a while to fiddle with the controls and you may have to refill the scuttles but you will soon enough get it. You must do this 5 times.

You will then have to wait around minutes.

Messages while adjusting temperature:

  • Contains your freshly-made egg.
  • It looks like your egg is started to grow.
  • It looks like your egg is getting much larger.
  • It looks like your egg is ready to hatch.
  • You have hatched a chocatrice. Well done!

Once the egg has hatched, it will run away into the Main Warren.

Speak to the Easter Bunny and he will tell you that he teleported the Chocatrice into the southern warren. He wants you to go and help it but the hole to get in is small, and you need to be transformed into a Bunny to get through. Once you're a bunny, enter through the hole. You need 12 chunks of chocolate.Once you enter, you will have a conversation with your Chocatrice. It gets angry with you and nearly turns you into chocolate but in the end obeys you. You must move through the tunnels using the target on rats, spiders, snails and cockroaches, turning them into chocolate. Make sure to pick up the chocolate chunk remains. Your Chocatrice has to be able to see the creature you want to turn to chocolate, or your attempts will fail!

Finishing Up

Once you have 12 Chocolate chunks, work your way back through the tunnels to the entrance and exit. Talk to the Easter Bunny to change back to a human. Add your chunks to the chocolate mixer near the Easter bunny to recieve a Chocatrice cape.

Event Complete!

Note: After completing the event, if you haven't unlocked the Bunny Hop Emote yet talk to the Easter Bunny after getting your cape. He will say that if you collect 10 more chocolate chunks, he'll give you an extra special reward. Once you collect the chunks, turn them into chocolate, and you'll have unlocked the Bunny Hop.

Rewards

A player operates his chocatrice cape.

The rewards are:

  • For 12 chunks - The chocatrice cape
  • If you have not unlocked the bunny hop emote, for 10 chunks you will get the bunny hop emote
  • 8 chunks - A chocolate egg
  • 6 chunks - A second chocolate egg
  • 4 chunks - A third chocolate egg

(Note: If you add more chunks to the chocolate mixer, you will receive a message that says: The Easter Bunny beams down at you as you helpfully bolster his chocolate stockpile.

In order to get all rewards you will need a total of 30 chunks. If you do not have bunny hop emote, you will need a total of 40 chunks.

When you Operate the Chocatrice cape, you will do the Giant Easter Egg emote.

When you go into the hole and there are a lot of players there is a chance your character will disappear but you still can finish everything.

Chocatrice Anger Remarks

The following is some remarks your player said as a rabbit to fuel your chocatrices anger so it would turn the creatures to chocolate. They all start with 'Hey, see that [rat/spider/cockroach] over there...'. A lot of them often refer to the chocatrice being a 'noob'.

  • ...it said you can't even wear bronze armour!
  • ...Oh dear, it said you've never finished a quest!
  • ...It thinks you probably taste terrible!
  • ...It said you still burn shrimp!
  • ...It said you lost your tinderbox and cried!
  • ...It's threatening to melt you into hot chocolate!
  • ...It says you still try to wear Goblin armour!
  • ...It says it took you three months to finish Tutorial Island!
  • ...It read your diary and said it was boring!
  • ...It said you put it off chocolate milk for life!
  • ...It said your just an egg on legs!
  • ...Oh my, I think it is staring at you menicingly!
  • ...It said I must have dropped your egg!
  • ...I heard it plotting to pull your feathers out!
  • ...It's going to chop you up to make a selection box!
  • ...It said you couldn't even do the Cook's Assistant quest!
  • ...It said your even afraid of butterflies!
  • ...It says it saw you die in Lumbridge cow field!
  • ...It said you're thicker than toffee!

Glitches

There was also a glitch that occurred in several worlds which prevented players from entering the rabbit hole after obtaining the 3 eggs. The majority of the players in those worlds believed that only one person was allowed down the hole at a time. However, for some reason the only solution was to be killed, which did something, and be able to participate by going into the hole.

If a snowball is thrown at someone using the Giant Easter Egg emote the player who got pelted will dissapear until the time when they should break out of the egg. This emote is possible to do while wearing a ring of stone.

Trivia

  • When trying to interact with a Chocatrice that is not yours, you would get a message that said "This is not the chocatrice you are looking for." This is an adjusted quote from Star Wars: A New Hope, which originally said "These aren't the droids you're looking for."
  • This event was the one and only time when Free-to-play players had a summoning interface screen, during the time of the event when having to turn other animals into chocalate.
