Invention of Disaster will be the 2016 Hallowe'en event. It will be released on 24 October and be playable for 2 weeks. Players will not have to meet the requirements for Invention to take part in the event.[1][2] Invention of Disaster will explore what the Invention skill would be like in the alternative realm of New Varrock, previously visited in Dimension of Disaster. In this realm the player will be able to disassemble living things and see what Falador would be like with the black knights having won the Invasion of Falador.[3] The event will involve Iron Doc Mk IV, who the player will help with a plan,[4] and Dr Fenkenstrain.[5]

You begin by talking to Dr Fenkenbrain on the table in the guild. He will instruct you to accomplish tasks in 4 rooms which, when completed, will have caused the creation of a construct which you will then test to see if it is fit to defend the dwarves.

In room 1, the west room, you will sort body parts by throwing them into a hopper. The parts are located in 4 hoppers and a spotlight will shine upon the one which has the currently needed parts.

Room 2, northwest, has you pedaling a silver penny farthing to move a conveyor belt along the process. You must change pedaling speed as required.

Room 3, northeast, requires you to control the flow of 4 energies. Each is controlled by a valve to increase it's flow, or a pressure release to back off if it becomes too high.

Room 4, to the east, has a track upon which you must walk to build up an electrical charge to power the construct. Avoid the parts that appear randomly on the track.

In the basement you see the God Construct you helped build. It becomes alive and enraged and attacks you. You must defeat it by running along the perimeter of the room and activating the zappers as each develops a charge to use.

The event will include 4 activities giving small amounts of experience in Cooking, Firemaking, Smithing, and Crafting.[6]

Rewards

The rewards will cost gray matter which is earned upon completing the event (250 on day 1) and repeating the entire cycle of inventing the construct.(15 gray matter each time). The event will also alter slightly each day and award more gray matter then.

  • A 'Mad Professor' title (100 grey matter).
  • Dr Spider MD pet (500 grey matter). Also required is finding the eight spider legs scattered around the area.
  • Lightening rod head override with unique emote which overrides the animation for receiving inspiration when equipped (100 grey matter).
  • Chance to obtain the ectoplasmator (275 grey matter).[7]
  • Deployable herb burner (275 grey matter).[8]
