Introduction[]

Agility cape (t) equipped
Agility master cape equipped

This guide describes the most effective methods to train the Agility skill. The experience rate estimates in this guide do not incorporate the use of any experience boosting items or bonus experience. Agility is a support skill that allows players to regain run energy more quickly and to take advantage of shortcuts found throughout RuneScape. Training the Agility skill often involves completing laps of courses composed of series of obstacles that grant Agility experience when traversed successfully. Typically, players are rewarded with an additional, larger amount of Agility experience for completing a full lap of an Agility course, passing all obstacles successfully. During training, players should repeat any obstacles that they fail until they are successful, in order to receive this lap bonus. As players level up Agility they gain access to Agility courses which award greater amounts of experience. Levelling up Agility also decreases a player's chance of failing during Agility activities where there is a chance of being unsuccessful.

Useful equipment[]

Weight-reducing clothing[]

Boots of lightness detail

As a player's chance of successfully traversing an Agility obstacle is increased if they have a low weight, players may wish to wear weight-reducing clothing while training Agility to decrease their weight and minimise their failure rate.

Nimble outfit[]

Nimble outfit equipped

Wearing components of the nimble outfit gives a percentage increase in the amount of Agility experience gained. There are five pieces in the set: the headwear, chestpiece, legwear, gloves, and boots. Components of the nimble outfit can be won from Treasure Hunter or obtained randomly from completing The Pit (successfully or unsuccessfully). They could also be created from lightweight feathers when these were available between 10-14 March 2016. If all pieces of the set are worn, an additional set bonus effect is given.

Name Experience boost
Nimble headwear Nimble headwear 1%
Nimble chestpiece Nimble chestpiece 1%
Nimble legwear Nimble legwear 1%
Nimble gloves Nimble gloves 1%
Nimble boots Nimble boots 1%
Set bonus 1%
Total experience boost 6%

Collector's insignia[]

Collector's insignia detail

Wearing the collector's insignia gives a 5% increase to Agility experience gained and 10% experience when charged. The collector's insignias are obtained from Barbarian Assault for 500 collector points and 5 Penance King kills. Insignias are worn in the pocket slot.

Surefooted auras[]

Greater surefooted aura detail

Surefooted auras prevent the player from failing the obstacles of an Agility course while they are activated. Players may use 20 or 40 vis wax to extend a surefooted aura's activation time by 50% or 100% (costing 308,660 or 617,320). This effect must be applied before the aura is activated. Once a surefooted aura has been used, the player must wait 1 hour for it to recharge before using it again. Surefooted auras can be bought using Membership loyalty points. The lower tier aura must be owned before the greater version of the aura can be purchased.

Tier Duration Loyalty point cost
Individual Cumulative
1 Surefooted aura Surefooted 20 minutes 5,000 5,000
2 Greater surefooted aura Greater surefooted 40 minutes 12,000 17,000

Summer pies[]

Summer pie detail

Consuming summer pie gives a temporary (around 5 minutes), visible 5 level boost to a player's Agility level. This boost can let the player access content which they do not currently have the required level for, as well as improving the player's success rate in traversing obstacles. A whole summer pie costs 1,192 and is made up of 2 portions. As well as boosting the player's Agility level, consuming half of a summer pie restores 20% of the player's run energy and up to 1,187 life points, with level 95 or more Constitution. One of the most noteworthy uses of summer pies is to use one at level 47 Agility to access the Wilderness Agility Course because of the huge amount of XP increase it gives as opposed to earlier courses.

Levels 1-18: Gnome Stronghold Agility Course[]

At level 1 Agility, players should begin training at the Gnome Stronghold Agility Course. With level 1-18 Agility, around 6,800 experience an hour can be gained from completing laps of this course. As only 3,523 experience is needed in order to achieve level 18 Agility, players with no previous experience of the skill should achieve level 18 in approximately 31 minutes. It is not possible to fail obstacles within this course.

Levels 18-30: Watchtower shortcut[]

From level 18 Agility players should train by repeatedly climbing the trellis shortcut on the north-eastern corner of the Watchtower, found just outside the north-western part of Yanille. After using the shortcut, climb down the ladder in the south-western corner of the room to return to the ground floor of the Watchtower. This method can provide around 10,000 experience an hour. It is not possible to fail climbing the trellis.

Levels 30-52: Penguin Agility Course[]

  • * NO LONGER WORKING (Clockwork suits)
  • There used to be a method with the Penguin Clockwork suits where a player would place 5-6 of them on the ground and pick them up for over 50,000 experience per hour. This method was patched out allowing only 1 clockwork penguin to be placed on the ground at a time as it had low requirements and better experience per hour than almost every high requirement agility course.

Training at the Penguin Agility Course provides more experience per hour than barbarian outpost by around 2x.

The ability to use the course requires at least partial completion of the Penguin Agility Course. At lower levels some food and agility potions are recommended as it is possible to fail obstacles here taking around 20 life points. Completing laps of this course can give between 27,000 experience an hour, with level 30 Agility and 30,000 experience an hour, with 43 Agility and 0kg of player weight.

Barbarian Outpost (35-48)[]

For a less click-intensive alternative to training with clockwork suits, training at the Barbarian Outpost Agility Course is also available from level 35 Agility. Accessing this Agility course requires completion of the Bar Crawl miniquest. It is possible to fail some of the obstacles here, so players may wish to bring food or another method to regain life points. Completing laps of this course can give between 11,000 experience an hour, with level 35 Agility, and 13,500 experience an hour, with level 48 Agility.

Ape Atoll Agility Course (48+)[]

At level 48 Agility, players can begin to use the Ape Atoll Agility Course. Access to this course requires the player to have partially completed the Monkey Madness quest, up to the point where the player gains the ability to speak to Zooknock to create monkey greegrees, as the player must wield a small or medium ninja monkey greegree to use the Ape Atoll course. A ninja monkey greegree can be made during or after Monkey Madness. With level 48-52 Agility, players can gain between 24,000 and 28,000 experience an hour using this course. Failure is common at these levels, so players are recommended to bring some food or use another method to regain life points lost during failed attempts to traverse obstacles.

Levels 52-65: Wilderness Agility Course[]

At level 52 Agility, players should start training at the Wilderness Agility Course, which gives between 36,000 and 41,000 experience an hour for levels 52-65 Agility. As the course is located in the Wilderness, it is possible to be attacked by other players while training. Dying will result in the loss of players' items; players should not bring items that they are not willing to lose while training Agility at this course.

Failure is common at these levels, so it is recommended to bring food or another method to regain life points. While food is recommended, damage from failure is based on a percentage of remaining health, thus keeping your health around 25% is ideal when alone.

5% additional experience can be gained on completing a lap if the player has the Wilderness sword 2, obtained from completing the medium Wilderness Tasks set, or better equipped. The demonic skull also gives a scaling bonus to all Agility experience gained while doing the course. Using the demonic skull the player can gain between 50,000 and 74,000 experience an hour while doing laps of the Wilderness Agility Course at these levels. The wilderness sword and demonic skull's bonuses do stack. With completion of the elite Wilderness Tasks, the player can obtain the Wilderness sword 4 which gives unlimited teleports to the Wilderness Agility Course.

Clockwork suits (52-62) and Ape Atoll Agility Course (52/62-65)[]

Players who do not want to train within the Wilderness can continue training using clockwork suits until around level 62 Agility, when training at the Ape Atoll Agility Course begins to give more experience an hour than training with clockwork suits. Between 34,000 and 40,000 experience an hour can be gained from training at the Ape Atoll course with level 62-65 Agility.

Players may also wish to use the Ape Atoll course to train from level 52-62 Agility. The course gives between 29,000-32,000 experience an hour at these levels.

Levels 65-99+: Wilderness Agility Course with demonic skull[]

Demonic skull detail

Players should only continue to train at the Wilderness Agility Course if they are using a demonic skull. The demonic skull gives an additional 4% Agility experience for each Agility level the player has over level 50 Agility. Players gain at least double experience for doing the course from level 75 Agility onward and triple experience at level 99. At level 99 Agility, players can gain around 137,000 experience an hour using a demonic skull at the Wilderness Agility Course. Do not forget that you can be attacked by any player while in possession of the skull.

Level Experience rate
65 74,000
70 83,000
75 93,000
80 102,000
85 111,000
90 120,000
95 130,000
99+ 137,000

The Empty Throne Room (65-75)[]

If the player is not using a demonic skull at the Wilderness Agility Course, then they should train using alternative methods. With at least 65 Agility, players who have completed The Dig Site quest can gain Agility experience from The Empty Throne Room. Players can gain a total of 800,000 Agility experience from the Empty Throne Room, which is enough to level from 65-75 Agility. It is advised that the player uses this method to train from level 65-75 as it gives the greatest improvement in experience rates over other training methods available when used at these levels and is free. Training at the throne room gives around 60,000 Agility experience an hour at these levels.

To gain Agility experience the player must pedal the Manual Auto-cycle bikes, located in the centre of the bottom floor of the throne room. One of the Manual Auto-cycles is "empowered", with this changing approximately every minute. Pedalling the empowered Manual Auto-cycle gives 10 times the regular experience, so players should prioritise using that cycle.

Ape Atoll Agility Course (75-77)[]

Ninja monkey greegree detail

The Ape Atoll Agility Course begins to give more base experience per hour than the Wilderness Agility Course with at least level 70 Agility. Around 45,000 experience an hour can be gained at this course at this level.

Hefin Agility Course (77-99+)[]

Hefin Agility Course

At level 77 Agility, players can train at the Hefin Agility Course. Completion of the Plague's End quest is required to access it. The amount of experience gained from traversing obstacles on the course and bonus experience awarded for completing a full lap of the course increases every 5 Agility levels. It is not possible to fail obstacles on this course.

While traversing obstacles, the player is shown a short cutscene of them completing the obstacles. It is possible to right-click the next obstacle while viewing these cutscenes for all the course's obstacles except the roof obstacle; this can be used to begin obstacles more quickly and decrease the time taken to complete the lap. Players may also complete faster laps by right-clicking the square from which the course's first obstacle is attempted, 2 squares south of the western side of the walkway obstacle, and using the "walk here" option before using the obstacle; this causes the player's character to run, rather than walk, towards the obstacle.

The Hefin course has several unique features. Most notably, it has a velocity system where a velocity bar is filled as the player traverses the course's obstacles, becoming full on approximately every other lap of the course that the player completes. When the bar is full, the next obstacle on the course will be completed automatically, without the player having to click on the obstacle, with Agility experience being gained as normal. The velocity system can be toggled on or off via the velocity interface. When the system is toggled off, the velocity bar will not fill up, and the velocity effect will not activate even if the bar is full. Players can toggle off velocity upon filling the bar in order to use the effect at the obstacle of their choice. It is best to use the velocity effect to complete the final light creature obstacle of the course, by turning on the velocity system after beginning the zip line obstacle.

Hefin Agility Course window shortcut

Window shortcut

Shortcuts have a chance of spawning when a lap of the Hefin course is completed. These can be used to complete the next lap of the course more quickly. Players are notified by a message in their chatbox when a shortcut has spawned. The window shortcut appears at the end of the cliff obstacle and places the player before the zip line obstacle when used, bypassing the cathedral and roof obstacles. The light creature shortcut appears before the zip line obstacle and completes the course when used, bypassing the zip line obstacle. It is possible for both shortcuts to be present at the same time. Players should use shortcuts whenever possible, as they allow laps to be completed more quickly. A perfect juju agility potion can be used to increase the chance of shortcuts spawning. Each dose of a perfect juju agility potion lasts for 1 hour. The potion can be bought from the Grand Exchange or created by adding harmony moss (costing 4,060) to a scentless potion (3) (costing 16,405) with level 85 Herblore.

Additionally, players have a chance of obtaining a reward each time that a lap is completed. These can include small Agility XP lamps and Hefin course multipliers. Players with level 88 Summoning can summon a light creature from a light creature pouch (costing 6,260) and use an enlightenment scroll (costing 507 to activate the enlightened buff), which gives better rewards for completion of the Hefin course for 6 minutes.

Hefin Clan

The Voice of Seren also provides benefits for players training at the Hefin course. As well as receiving 20% additional experience in Agility, players will receive Prayer experience at a rate equivalent to 25% of the base Agility experience that they gain. The Voice of Seren also increases the player's chance of spawning shortcuts and doubles the rate at which velocity is gained while it is active.

Assuming that players are able to complete laps in ~51 seconds (or ~48 seconds when using velocity) and are using the strategies mentioned, it is possible to achieve the following experience rates:

Agility level Experience per hour Experience per hour (with perfect juju agility potion) Experience per hour (with Voice of Seren) Experience per hour (with Voice of Seren and perfect juju agility potion)
77-82 57,000 68,500 70,500 74,500

Alternative methods of gaining experience[]

Completing quests[]

See here for a list of quests that grant Agility experience on completion.

Silverhawk boots[]

Silverhawk boots detail

Silverhawk boots are an item that can be won from Treasure Hunter or purchased for 750 thaler. While the boots are equipped and charged, players will periodically receive Agility experience equal to 10% of the experience that is gained from using a small XP lamp. Experience will be gained:

  • Once per minute spent running.
  • While skilling (a maximum of once every 45 seconds).
  • When using an ultimate ability (a maximum of once every 45 seconds).

Each time that experience is gained from the boots a charge is consumed. Silverhawk boots may hold up to 500 charges at once. Silverhawk feathers give 1 charge per feather used with the boots. Silverhawk feathers can be won from Treasure Hunter and are tradeable, costing 20,054 each to buy from the Grand Exchange. 1 silverhawk down can also be used to give the boots 1 charge. Silverhawk down is an untradeable item that can be purchased for 35 thaler per 10 down.

The amount of Agility experience gained from using 1 charge from a pair of silverhawk boots ranges between 6.25 experience, with level 1 Agility, and 860.2 experience, with level 99 Agility. Players can gain between 375 and 51,612 Agility experience an hour from silverhawk boots, assuming that 60 charges are used, at a cost of 1,203,240 if silverhawk feathers are bought from the Grand Exchange and used to charge the boots. The maximum amount of charges used per hour is 80. It is not recommended to use Silverhawk boots as a way to train Agility under level 98 because of the relatively low experience gained per feather and high cost of the feathers, unless the user has the means to make a large amount of money every hour.

The Pit[]

Talent scout

The Pit is a Distraction and Diversion that players may be invited to participate in approximately once every hour that they spend completing laps of an Agility course where a talent scout is present. The player will be notified by a message in their chatbox if the talent scout is inviting them to play The Pit upon successful completion of a lap of an Agility course. Approximately 1 minute is given to talk to the talent scout to start The Pit.

If the player accepts the talent scout's offer then they will be transported to The Pit. The Distraction and Diversion will involve completing 1 of 6 possible simple activities, most of which are luck-based. Successfully completing a game of The Pit will reward the player with between 340 and 10,125 Agility experience, depending on which activity is completed and on which Agility course they were taken from. The player will then have the option to gamble the experience reward that they have won. Gambling experience has a 1/3 chance of doubling the experience reward, a 1/3 chance of halving the experience reward, and a 1/3 chance of the experience reward being unchanged. If the player does not manage to complete The Pit then they will receive between 216 and 3,376 Agility experience and will not have the opportunity to gamble for a larger experience reward.

Serenity posts (75+)[]

Serenity posts

Serenity posts are an Agility training activity which can be completed to gain a maximum of 20,000 Agility experience once per day. Level 75 Agility is required to participate in the activity, as well as completion of the Plague's End. To begin the activity use the "balance on" option on any of the 6 serenity posts in the Hefin district training area, and choose a pose in the minigame interface.

Experience is gained once per second while balanced on a serenity post. Maximum experience is gained when imitating Lady Hefin's pose. Doing the same pose as her grants between 30-58 Agility experience each second, depending on the player's Agility level, while doing a different pose to Lady Hefin grants 10% of this amount of experience. Only base experience gains count towards the daily limit. Upon reaching the limit the player's character will automatically leave the serenity post, and they will be unable to stand on the post again until the next day. A player with level 99 Agility can obtain the 20,000 experience limit in around 10 minutes, giving an experience rate equivalent to 120,000 experience an hour.

Balthazar Beauregard's Big Top Bonanza[]

Circus ticket detail

Players can do an Agility performance at the Balthazar Beauregard's Big Top Bonanza Distraction and Diversion once per week. To enter the circus the player must gain a circus ticket from the ticket vendor, which is randomly located in 1 of 12 possible locations each week. The Agility performance can be started by entering the changing booth in the Agility performance area, transporting the player to the high wire.

Circus hud
Juggling balls

During the performance, players have 10 attempts to perform up to 10 different tricks. Agility experience is received upon the first successful attempt of each trick that the player performs. Repeating a trick does not grant additional experience. Each trick has a recommended Agility level to attempt, however the level is not required in order to perform the trick, as it is possible to succeed or fail a trick at any Agility level. When a trick is performed that has a higher recommended Agility level than the player has, the experience received will be the same as that given for performing a trick with half the recommended Agility level, rounded down.

To gain the most experience from the Agility performance players should begin by performing the highest recommended level trick for their current Agility level, and work down to the trick with a recommended level half of their current Agility level. After this players should perform any tricks with a recommended Agility level which is greater than their current Agility level and then finally perform any tricks with a recommended level of less than half of their current Agility level. The Distraction and Diversion's interface will display the recommended Agility level for the performance's tricks, as well as show which tricks the player has performed successfully. Players can receive a total of 13,749.5 experience, in about 1 minute, if they successfully perform all tricks with level 99 Agility or higher. With completion of the Back to the Freezer quest, players may gain up to 1.5 times as much experience from each trick at level 99.

Barbarian Assault[]

Players can gain Agility bonus experience as a reward from playing the Barbarian Assault minigame. At level 99 Agility it is possible to gain 1,300,000 bonus experience per hour playing hard mode Barbarian Assault waves 6-9, at a cost of 6 Barbarian assault ticket - hard wave 10 per hour. Players may as an alternative gain 920,000 bonus experience per hour playing hard mode waves 1-9 without having to pay for the tickets.

In order to play Hard mode Barbarian Assault, the normal mode of the minigame must be completed at least once. It is highly recommended for players to reach maximum role levels before starting to play for bonus experience.

Supply runs[]

Supply run start

Supply runs are a safe activity that take place on Mazcab every 12 hours (at 00:05 and 12:05 game time). The activity begins with goebie supplies spawning at the supply rock near to Querci in Kanatah and is available until 25 minutes past the hour. Players may take up to 10 goebie supplies per day from the supply rock. Upon taking goebie supplies players become flagged for safe PvP and can be attacked by other players, with death resulting in the loss of all goebie supplies that the players are carrying. After obtaining goebie supplies players must travel north-west through the Nemi Forest to Otot, where the supplies may be exchanged for experience with Quercy. The player will be given a choice between two skills in which to gain experience: Agility or Crafting, Farming or Herblore, and Hunter or Woodcutting. Different skills are offered on different worlds, so players may change worlds to find a world where the skill in which they wish to gain experience is offered.

Between 495, with level 1, and 48,515, with level 99, experience can be gained from exchanging 10 goebie supplies. Assuming the activity is completed in 5 minutes, experience is awarded at a rate equivalent to between 5,940, with level 1, and 582,180, with level 99, experience an hour.
