This article is about the item. For the spring, see ancestral energy (spring).

Ancestral energy detail

Ancestral energy is a type of divine energy gained through the Divination skill. It can be harvested at springs near a dead moai on Uncharted Isles, requiring level 95 Divination and awarding 53.5 Divination experience. This cannot be boosted. Ancestral energy can be sold for 2 chimes each to Halia (divine merchant) on The Islands That Once Were Turtles.

Ancestral energy can also be created by harvesting positive energy and negative energy with their counterpart in the player's inventory. The energy in the player's inventory will be consumed, while ancestral energy is created. This only requires the level 90 Divination needed to harvest the positive/negative energy, but level 95 Divination is required to combine the two energies.

50 ancestral energies are a reward for completing Tuai Leit's Own, which requires 90 Divination.

Harvesting

Unlike standard wisp colonies, ancestral springs do not require that a wisp be activated to begin harvesting. Instead, ancestral springs are sourced directly from dead moais, with each moai supplying 300 energy and 100 harvests before depletion. This is a cumulative number that is shared between all springs spawned from any one dead moai. Every harvest gives 53.5 Divination experience, and may also spawn chronicle fragments.

Unlike other divine energy, ancestral energy does not create memories. Because of this, the Elder divination outfit, and other outfits which can double memories will occasionally give double experience, and the elder outfit will sometimes give an extra energy. The (superior) energy-gathering scrimshaw will work when harvesting ancestral energy, occasionally giving 6 energy (or 7 energy if the outfit also activates). The (superior) memory-crushing scrimshaw will often consume the energy gathered in exchange for doubled experience (tripled if the outfit also activates).

Also unlike standard wisp colonies, ancestral springs do not have a timed expiration, meaning players can stop harvesting a wisp, then continue again later, as long as the player does not leave the island without claiming it first; the wisps will last until completely harvested for that day.

Usage

Ancestral energies can be used to charge two tortle portals on the Islands That Once Were Turtles, requiring 50 energies each. Once charged, the portals grant players access to additional mushroom clusters, access to the Power of the Ancestors divine energy shop, and a positive and negative wisp colony on the Islands That Once Were Turtles.

Analysis

Even though none of the transmutations turn a profit, a small profit can be obtained by turning an item into something that allows greater profit after another step.

For example, the conversion of shell chippings into shiny shell chippings has a profit/loss of 0 chimes. The shiny shell chippings can be made into a shiny tortle shell bowl worth 12 chimes instead of a tortle shell bowl worth 9 chimes.

Transmutation can also be used to even-out resources obtained from islands in order to make shark soup for even more profit. As an extreme example, 5 alaea salt and 5 energy (transmuted into 1 wobbegong oil and 1 shiny bowl, with 1 salt left), combined with 1 bundle of bamboo and 1 sliced mushroom to make 1 shark soup is 30 chimes profit per soup, compared to 36 when gathering everything directly. This, combined with the time spent transmuting, is a lower chimes per hour value, but it may be desirable if your claimed island does not contain all the resources needed, if you lack the skill levels needed for some resources, or if you simply do not want to gather certain resources.

The modified diviner's headwear and the Divination cape can both be used to save energy and resources while transmuting items.

Trivia

  • Entering the lobby or logging out while on an island that has a partially depleted dead moai will cause the leftover energy from the remaining springs to be spread out across four individual springs once the game loads again.
