Ancient Curses

The Ancient Curses are a set of prayers that is obtained as a reward after completing The Temple at Senntisten. It consists of prayers ranging between levels 50 - 95 Prayer. Prayers of this set include combat skill boosts, special attack energy drainers, and damage recoilers. When players complete the quest, they will be given access to the Altar of Zaros which works similarly to gaining access to the Ancient and Lunar spellbooks for Magic. The altar is located at Senntisten Temple (under the Digsite). When a player switches to the Ancient Curses they also gain a 15% boost to their overall prayer level.

A book called the Ancient Hymnal, given to players by Azzanadra, gives an overview of the effects of the prayers.

Wrath Wrath 89 If this curse is active when you die, it deals damage of up to 25% of your max Prayer to all nearby enemies in a 5x5 radius. Note that this curse will not hurt other players outside of PvP areas, and it won't hit multiple targets in non-multicombat zones.
File:Soul split.gif Soul Split 92 If this curse is active when you are fighting another player, they will lose 1 Prayer point (and you will gain 1 Hitpoint) for every four points of damage you do to them. This curse drain effect isn't affected by your victim's protection prayers.
Turmoil Turmoil 95 Increases your Attack and Defence by 15% (+15% of enemy's Attack/Defence), and Strength by 23% (+10% of enemy's Strength).

  • Like the 'Protect from' prayers, Deflect curses stop 100% of damage caused by NPCs and 60% of damage caused by other players (in PvP). In addition, they also have a chance of deflecting some of the damage they would have caused back onto the attacker. As with the 'Protect from' prayers, you can only deflect one style of combat at a time (Magic, melee or Ranged). Creatures that can only be damaged in a specific way (for example, the vyrewatch can only be damaged by the Ivandis flail) cannot be hurt using a deflect curse.
  • You can have multiple sap or leech curses active at the same time (e.g. Sap Mage, Sap Warrior and Sap Ranger), but you cannot have the sap and leech curse of the same type active at the same time (e.g. you cannot have Sap Ranger and Leech Ranged active together).
  • You can only have either Soul Split, Wrath or one deflect curse active at any one time.
  • Turmoil may not be used with any leech or sap curses.
  • The effects of the Turmoil curse apply to monsters, as well as players.
  • The curses Protect Item, Berserker and Turmoil all have animations associated with them being activated, though the Sap and Deflect curses have no animation.
