Barbarian Assault rewards are rewards players can buy with Honour Points which are obtained while clearing waves of the minigame.
Choosing your wave reward type[]
After each successfully completed wave, the player is rewarded with either Honour points or bonus experience in Firemaking, Mining, or Agility. The reward can be chosen before a wave starts by rotating the reward statue at the north end of each wave's room. Honour points are chosen by default. When choosing bonus xp, you can select the skill or allow it to be allocated randomly.
Honour points can be used to buy various Penance armours, role level upgrades, cosmetic weapon decorations, or random gambled items (the dragon chainbody is among these, although it is rare).
If bonus experience was selected, at the end of a wave you will see a message telling you how much bonus experience you have received and in which skill. The amount of bonus experience is a fixed amount per wave (based on skill level), rather than a reward based on performance.
Earning Honour Points[]
Players may choose Honour Points as a reward from completing Barbarian Assault waves. The amount of Honour Points that a player receives is based on their team's overall performance in the wave (Team Honour Points) with the performance in their own role receiving double weighting through Individual Honour Points. The leader of the team receives a weight of 3.6 to the points in their role by having the respective Individual Honour Points multiplied by 2.6. Because this increased weighting in their role, it is important for the player to do their role effectively to avoid a heavy reduction in the total Honour Points gained. Honour Points can be used to buy a variety of rewards.
This is an example of the Advanced Breakdown Points Table for an Attacker that is not a leader of the team:
Advanced Breakdown Points Table | |||||
---|---|---|---|---|---|
Reward | Contributor | Notes | |||
# | Honour Points | Importance of Teamwork | |||
Team | Individual | ||||
Runners that got past | 4 | -10 | Defender | Healer needs to call out Bait type | |
Rangers killed | 5 | 4 | 4 | Attacker | Collector needs to call out Attack style |
Fighters killed | 5 | 4 | 4 | Attacker | Collector needs to call out Attack style |
Healers killed | 5 | 3 | Healer | Defender needs to call out Poison type | |
Runners killed | 5 | 9 | Defender | Healer needs to call out Bait type | |
Player life points replenished | 600 | 3 | 3 | Healer | |
Wrong poison packs used | 2 | -0 | Healer | Defender needs to call out Poison type | |
Eggs collected (minus exploded) | 20 | 4 | Collector | Attacker needs to call out Colour | |
Failed Attacker attacks | 10 | -9 | -9 | Attacker | Collector needs to call out Attack type |
Total | 10 | 2 | |||
Honour Points | 12 | Team + Individual |
This is the formula (approximate) for calculating Honour Points for each Role:
Honour Points for Waves 1-9 | ||
---|---|---|
Role | Points earned | Penalties (Max: 10 points) |
Collector | Egg collected / 4.35 (rounded down) | Exploded eggs (subtracted from total eggs collected) |
Healer | (Total / 180) plus Healers killed x 0.7 (rounded down) |
Each wrong poison used / 4 |
Attacker | (Fighters killed - 1) + (Rangers killed - 1) | Incorrect attacks / 1.2 (rounded down) |
Defender | Runners killed x 1.8 (rounded down) | Runners getting through x 3 |
Entire Team | The sum of all the above points will be given to everyone on the team | The sum of all the above penalties is deducted from everyone on the team |
For completing Wave 10, each player gets 80 points for their role (plus 5 points in each of the other 3 roles.), or in hard mode, 210 points for their role plus 15 points in each of the other 3 roles. |
- Note: Maximum penalty of 10 may affect team totals, but individual totals can only go down to 0 (i.e. no negative value).
- For healers the max amount of LP that counts is 51200.
- Exploded eggs cannot be 'recovered'. If 3 eggs are exploded, it is then only possible to get a max egg count of 57, rather than the usual 60.
- Penance killed using the egg launcher are still counted regardless of who fires.
Players may then spend their Honour Points by talking to Commander Connad, who can be found in the Barbarian Assault entrance hall, near Captain Cain. Players may choose to spend their points by either:
- Upgrading their level in a particular role (Level 1-5).
- Purchasing Penance armour.
- Gambling to obtain items, including the extremely rare Dragon chainbody.
Level Upgrade[]
Players may upgrade the level in a particular role from Level 1 up to Level 5. By upgrading their levels, the player gains extra abilities such as extra damage, higher healing, etc. However, each upgrade requires spending a certain amount of Honour Points. A total of 1,400 Honour Points are needed to obtain a Level 5 role. 5,600 points are required to obtain Level 5 in all roles. Obtaining the maximum level in all roles is one of the requirements needed to get a trimmed Completionist cape.
Abilities gained by upgrading:
- Collector - increase the capacity of the Egg Collector bag.
- Healer - increase the healing capacity.
- Attacker - increase damage on Penance Fighters and Penance Rangers.
- Defender - increase the lure range for Penance Runners.
A summary of the level upgrades for each role:
Level | Honour Points | Collector | Healer | Attacker | Defender |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
1 | Start level | Bag holds 2 eggs | Heal 10% max life points | +100 bonus damage | - |
2 | 200 | Bag holds 4 eggs + Conversion chance 70% | Heal 25% max life points | +200 bonus damage | 1 free logs from green eggs |
3 | 300 | Bag holds 6 eggs + Conversion chance 80% | Heal 40% max life points | +300 bonus damage | 2 free logs from green eggs |
4 | 400 | Bag holds 7 eggs + Conversion chance 90% | Heal 45% max life points | +400 bonus damage | 3 free logs from green eggs |
5 | 500 | Bag holds 8 eggs + Conversion chance 100% | Heal 50% max life points | +500 bonus damage | 4 free logs from green eggs |
Armour[]

A player wearing a full set of penance with a runner hat.
Players may also purchase Penance armour using their Honour Points, some of which is classed as PvP armour. Certain items require the player to kill the Penance Queen. Each time the player wants one of these items, he or she must kill the queen once. The kills do not "stack". If a player is only missing a few dozen points and will probably be able to earn them before their next Queen kill it is probably worthwhile to keep saving up. Of course this may mean leaving one's current team. Points from all roles are required.

Barbarian assault armour patch | 100 in any role | No |
- The total amount in points for a penance armour set (one of any penance hat, penance gloves, runner boots, fighter torso and penance skirt) is 5100 points (all roles combined). When wearing a full penance armour set, your prayer points will replenish over time at a rate of 30 prayer points per minute.
- The barbarian assault armour patch can be added to any penance armour, to upgrade the damage bonus from tier 50 to tier 65; the armour value, wearing requirements, and set effect are unchanged.
Weapons[]
Only one official Penance weapon is available, but the Barbarians will also paint your abyssal whip or dark bow for a small price. Once the paint is bought, it can be used an unlimited amount of times. Note however to re-colour an item, it must first be cleaned with a cleaning cloth.

Insignias[]
For the price of 5 Penance King kills, level 5 in the appropriate role, and 500 Honour points (total of 1900 Honour points per insignia), a player can purchase an Insignia to be used outside of the game in the pocket slot. These have various uses. Note that King kills do stack beyond 5 and do not need to be obtained in the role matching the desired Insignia.

Miscellaneous[]
The master penance horn has a unique emote designed to showcase each Level 5 a player has in a role, but otherwise the horns are now cosmetic (bonus experience is awarded as each wave is completed).
The mad rambling books are a requirement for the master quest cape.

Gambling[]
By gambling the points, players may obtain various items, including the dragon chainbody.
Gambling is not available to Ironmen.
There are two methods of gambling, both with different costs:
- Low items: costs 20 Honour Points
- High items: costs 60 Honour Points.
Interestingly, both levels of gambling return about 1500 gp per point gambled: high gambles are usually worth about 90K, and low gambles about 30K.
High value gambles can be a good source of Uncut diamonds. 17 are received from a gamble, and as up to a thousand Honour points can be obtained per hour, it is possible to get over 100 Uncut diamonds per hour.
The odds of getting a dragon chainbody are exceedingly slim, as it is a rare item. The odds of obtaining it are, as quoted from Jagex, "About the same odds as Zamorak suddenly deciding to give up his evil ways," which, according to RuneScape mythology, is nearly zero. However, Mod Mat K confirmed in a livestream that the actual rate was 1 in 16,000[source needed].
