Barbec was a bandit hiding out in the Wilderness in the novel Return to Canifis. He was second-in-command of a group of bandits led by Leander, who were protecting Sulla as while he located a cache of secret documents. Upon retrieving and unlocking the box, Leander, in his greed, opened it first, activating the trap and becoming poisoned. Barbec revealed that they knew all along who he was and had intended to sell him to the Kinshra for the bounty on his head. When Jerrod threatened to harm them if they harmed Sulla, they agreed to join forces and to leave Leander to die out in the wilderness by himself. Barbec was placed in command of the bandits who followed Sulla to Varrock.
They holed up in a barn, where they captured a young girl named Pia. After she broke out and wounded Jerrod, she was recaptured, and Barbec, Jerrod and Sulla went into Varrock to do some business. While they were gone, Kara-Meir slaughtered or captured the bandits.
