Bert is a key figure in the Hand in the Sand quest and, after completing the quest, will gather 84 buckets of sand and deliver them to your bank account daily if you speak with him. Please note players have to speak to him every day in order to get the sand. It is not automatically delivered.

He can be contacted using the NPC Contact spell in the Lunar spellbook.

Tip

• If you need more than 84 buckets a day, one can gather sand from the Sand pit north-west of Bert.
• Bert's chathead seems to have been updated on the 30th of September 2008.
• On the 10th of February 2009, the minimum interval between sand collections was reduced to 23 hours and 40 minutes to enable people to collect sand at the same time every day. Prior to this, the time of collection would slowly creep forwards every day because of the 24 hour minimum limit.
• Following completion of the Ardougne Elite Tasks, Bert will deliver 120 buckets of sand per day.

Dialogue

The conversation players have with Bert can be one of three when they are eligible for the sand, i.e. when it has been at least 24 hours since they last claimed it. The conversation when they are ineligible for the sand is fixed.

In this section, "(player)" represents the player's username, which is substituted into the conversation in the game.

When eligible 1

• Mornin' (player)!
• Hello there Bert!
• I be goin' ou' on a limb and guessin' ye wan's yer sand today!
• Yes, I'd like the sand please Bert.
• I'll ge' righ' on it!

When eligible 2

• 'Ello there (player)!
• Hope you're having a good day!
• Oh arr, no' too bad, though sometimes I could do wi' a second pair o' hands! I'll be gettin' on movin' them there buckets o' sand to yer bank!
• Thanks Bert, see you tomorrow!

When eligible 3

• I thought i' were you comin' in (player). I sposin' you be wantin' yer sand today?
• Aye...I mean, yes please Bert!
• I'll ge' on wit' movin' it. Thankee fer makin' sure Sandy go' it in t'neck fer 'is double dealin's!
• Excellent! While you move the sand to my bank, I'll do something else, see you later!

When ineligible

If talking to Bert less than 24 hours since last visit:

• 'Ello there (player)! Hope yer be havin' fun. I be a wee bi' busy to 'elp wit' yon sand, come back tomorrow.
• OK Bert, I'll come back for my sand a bit later on then!

Using NPC Contact spell

• Hi there Bert.
• Huh? What tha doin' in marn ed?
• This is the voice of your conscience. Hand all your money to (player)! Wooo wooo!
• Be away with ya!
• Just kidding, I'm just using magic to talk to you. I'm totally 'armless.
• Oh ar. So wha' do thee want?
• Could you hand some sand into my bank?

Upon completion of the quest, Bert seems somewhat distressed...

Trivia

• Bert's image on the Contact spell interface is that of his old chathead, where he looks younger. However, when talking to him using Contact the new chathead is displayed.
• Bert speaks with a Somerset accent.
• Despite the fact Bert mentions a wife during the quest The Hand in the Sand, he appears to be solitary in his cabin.
