[FAQ] [doc]

A Bloodveld is a Slayer monster requiring level 50 Slayer to kill. They have very similar drops to Lesser demons, including Rune med helms and Steel scimitars, and a decent drop rate of Green charms.

Their appearance changed upon release of the Smoking Kills quest on 5 June 2008.

Strengths and weaknesses

Version of the bloodveld in God Wars Dungeon

The Bloodveld's attack, though melee, is based upon a player's magical defence. It is strongly recommended players wear Dragonhide armour or other armour with high magical defence bonuses to take as little damage as possible. However, the Protect from Melee prayer will fully protect players from the Bloodveld's attack.

A good tactic for when you get a slayer task for Bloodveld is to use Bones to Peaches, the spell or the tab works just as well, since they can drop 2/3 bones per kill it saves you having to bank for food.

Bloodvelds have rather low Defence and Strength for their levels and can only hit a maximum of 5 (level 76) or 7 (level 81), though they are fairly accurate.

Range and Magic

These monsters may be safely fought using Ranged, Magic, or melee with a Halberd, as there are several safe spots available in all their habitats. Their high Hitpoints make them a very good training method for Ranged, with more experience per hour than with Fire giants. Bloodveld are difficult to fight effectively using magic for players at or below level 60 magic.

The Slayer Tower is a popular place to fight Bloodveld, and safe spots can be found behind chairs, at the wall that separates the two southern rooms, and at the turn in the corridor to the north.

There also are safe spots in the Zamorak area of the God Wars Dungeon, near the entrance. Bloodveld also have higher hitpoints there, which means more experience. Another bonus of training here is that players will still get the Slayer experience if another monster kills the Bloodveld, so long as the player has inflicted at least 1 damage on the Bloodveld first.

Melee

Guthan's set, with its healing ability, may be used, especially by players who have high magic levels. Although Guthan's gear itself does not give magic defence bonuses, the set special effect will activate as usual, healing the player. However, using the spear as a weapon, rather than a faster weapon, may be required more often than normal. To save wear-and-tear on Guthan's armour, some players also bring armour with high magical defence and only switch to Guthan's set when hitpoints are low.

Since Bloodveld skin is unprotected, they're weaker to slash attacks and due to being demonic, they're also vulnerable to the effects of Silverlight and Darklight.

Demonic nature

Slayer Masters sometimes refer to bloodveld as a "strange, demonic creature" or a "half-ton demon". Bloodveld drop bones when they die, while all other demons, with the notable exception of the Elder-Demon Thammaron, crumble to ash. It has been confirmed that Silverlight and Darklight have their special effects when fighting Bloodveld. It would seem that they are definitely a type of demon, despite their dissimilarity with other creatures within that classification.
