Bolt spells are the second weakest elemental group of magic combat spells in the standard spellbook. Elemental staves can be used to cover the costs of these spells. These are free-to-play spells.

- Before the RuneScape HD update, the Wind, Water, and Earth Bolts had a pointy appearance while the Fire Bolt had a round appearance. After the update, all of the Bolt spells were changed to conform with the shape and texture of the Fire Bolt spell.
- On 24 June 2010, all of the elemental spells received a graphical make-over.
- Prior to the Evolution of Combat, wearing Chaos gauntlets from the Family Crest quest would increase the maximum damage of bolt spells by +30. On 24 March 2014, the damage increase was reinstated under the form of a 10% damage boost for all bolt spells.
