A canary is a non-player character found in the dwarven outpost on the top of Ice Mountain. The bird can be found in a cage in one of the dwarves' huts on the surface, along with several other dwarves and Rolad. The canary cannot be interacted with, except through the examine option.

The dwarves working in the Dwarven Mine use canaries to detect dangerous gases while mining. Canaries are sensitive to the gases, and so die as a result of exposure to them before they would be perceptible to the dwarves.
