Captain Marlin is a penguin who captains the Submarine in the quest Hunt for the Red Raktuber. During the quest, the player discovers that a sea slug has taken control of him, as the Captain is seen with a sea slug "hat". However, In a Recent Update F.A.Q, Mod Osbourne stated that he liked the idea of Marlin just believing that he was under Mallum's control, but that he may not. This suggests a future route for the quest series, although taken in bad taste by many questers.

"What about the 'Hunt for the Red Raktuber', where a sea slug takes over the captain of it? As it is now, the mind-control powers are supposedly gone, so how does this work?"

Mod Osborne: We were well aware of Marlin’s sea slug, and we considered adding Hunt for Red Raktuber as a requirement for this quest. That would have meant fewer people being able to play this quest, however. Whatever the case, I really like the idea that Marlin believes he has been controlled by Mother Mallum, when really the slug was a bit mangled and wasn’t functioning at all. Look at it in the quest; that slug is looking a bit peaky!

This is why he appears to be mad, and is obsessed with the sea. He is not seen after the quest.

Trivia

His name is likely to be a reference to the late Marlon Brando's role in the film Apocalypse Now. Another tribute to the actor is his examine, which states "The Don of penguins", referencing Brando's role in The Godfather films. Finally, the statements Marlin makes regarding all penguins being slugs, is yet another reference to a Brando film, The Island of Doctor Moreau.
