The beginning

Start the quest by talking to Xenia outside the family's house (the building directly north of the Clock Tower in Ardougne). She will then tell you to speak to Ceril Carnillean who will give you Sir Ceril's list, containing a number of tasks to do. Do not forget to ask where you can get the stuff from, because you WILL NOT be able to continue. After you have spoken to Ceril you need to talk to Butler Crichton, who will tell you to search a bookcase for a book about the Carnillean family. It is located in the room with Henryeta Carnillean - this step is optional. Then go into the basement, and into the cave near the ladder.

In the caves

Upon entering the cave system a cutscene will play. In the cutscene, Butler Crichton will explain to the player what to do. Inside the tunnels you will see various things that can be built. Right-clicking them will show what items are needed for them to be constructed.

Items for the creations

In the cave: Skulls and bones are taken from the pile in the small cavern with the wolf-pups. The cavern also contains a mouse, which you use to lure the pups.

In the basement: 30 Rusty spikes can be found in the Barrel of junk close to the entrance of the cave to create the ledge, OR 7 buckets of water can be used for the ledge. 9 Wooden Boards, a Twine and a jug of Sir Ceril's wine can be taken from the Cupboard. A Feather and a Beer glass are on the table. Pick up the Spider on the floor for the webbing. Claus will agree to help if spoken to about the Drunken jailer.

First floor: Take the two Dragon heads from the wall in the parent's bedroom. Tear off the curtains (Netting) from the north-east wall. Take the armour and sword out of the Wardrobe. Take the Red paint from Philipe's painting set. Take the money pouch from the top of the large double bed covers beneath the red canopy of the four-poster bed or the mother's necklace off the dresser. Search the wardrobe upstairs in Sarsaparilla's room to get a spare dress.

Constructing

In order to build the cobwebs around the entrance you'll need the Spider and Netting (you get this from the window curtains upstairs)

Set up the two Tripwires using the Twine.

Make any of the 3 choices for a decoration( blood stains, scary eyes, or impaled skulls. It doesn't matter what you chose). Locations are as follows

  • After the pit
  • after the patrolling gaurds
  • Before the 'Jail Guard'

Take the "Money Pouch" from the bed. this will count as the "Return home loaded with riches" part, once you have it, use it on Claus after he is in his hotspot to give it to him.

If you've taken the necklace, place it on Sarsaparilla to count as the "Return Home Loaded with Riches."

Assembling the Cast

Speak to Sarsaparilla and ask her to help. When she refuses, ask if she is going to stay up there all day. She then reveals she always wanted to be an actress after watching a performance. Tell her that you're making a play and you want her in it, and you'll be given the option to give her a role. The role that she should be given to her is the fourth one, a "Damsel in distress". Take her to the very end of the tunnel, and "build" her in the Damsel in Distress hotspot.

Speak to the chef downstairs and ask if he would like to help. Tell him that he is to be the "drunken guard" and he agrees but only if he gets to drink Ceril's fortified wine. You should have taken it already, if not it is on the table near him. Lead him to the part in the cave before the bridge over the water and "build" him in the "Jailer" hotspot.

The 'dragons' wait for Philipe, their soft tiny paws blazing with the fires of the Abyss.

Next, talk to the two goblins found in the caves. Ask them for help, and ask them to be the "patrolling guards". They agree, but only if you give them human armour. You can get some from the upstairs master bedroom in the wardrobe. Give it to them, and they agree and begin patrolling.

Go south-east to the cave, there are the young wolves that will be the dragons. Take the cave mouse that is running around on the floor, the wolves should follow you. Lead the wolves to the dragon hotspot, they will position themselves and then put the dragon heads on them.

Philipe's Quest

Philipe's Big Adventure.

Philipe's Big Adventure!

Once you have the scenario completed, talk to Philipe and offer the quest, he will tell you that he overheard his parents and he knows the plot, thus not being very cooperative with you. Pickpocket him and you will get his bag of sweets, now offer the quest again selecting as reward the bag of sweets, he will reluctantly agree to do it.

To complete the quest, Philipe will need:

  • Shears or secateurs
  • A disguise and a drink for the jailguard
  • A sword to fight the dragons

At one point, you will encounter a level 283 Cave wolf matriarch that attacks with area-based magic attacks. This is a good opportunity to head to the bank and grab some food (lobsters or better) and armour with good magic resistance. It also helps to bring some energy potions or use the salt water spa in Oo'glog (after As a First Resort...), since you will have to do some running.

A funny moment happens while Philipe tries to sneak past the guards; after he gives up, talk to Slimepits. As soon as Butler Crichton narrates, wait for a few moments. Do not go forward with the dialogue or Philipe will not be able to bypass the guards.

Philipe fighting Matriach

Philipe bravely fighting the Matriarch.

Once Philipe slays the 'dragons', the Cave wolf matriarch will appear. Philipe will tell you to distract the matriarch so that he can kill it. To do this, simply click once to attack it, and it will immediately shift its attention towards you. Do not activate Protect from/Deflect Magic, or it will simply ignore you and continue attacking Philipe.

The wolf uses two attacks, both of which may be dodged by running around. The first is an area-based magic orb that hits in the 200s. The second is a harder to avoid howl attack that causes stalactites to fall from the ceiling in a large grid, dealing rapid damage of around 50 to 70.

Once Philipe defeats the wolf, he will free Sarsaparilla and complete his quest.

Trivia

  • In the South-eastern most part of the cave, there is a Mark of Hazeel on the wall and when examined it says, "Old graffiti, with 'Carnilleans suck' scratched under it."
  • When you use the feather or an Abyssal Whip on Sarsaparilla once she's tied up, you'll get a message saying "Runescape isn't that sort of fantasy game."
  • Although no experience is gained from building on the hotspots, it is possible to receive Construction strange rocks from doing so.
  • Regarding Philipe's adventures, the current last one is in Dorgesh-Kaan, but Mod Ash has stated "I put in encounters that can't be reached at all, that will become accessible when more quests are released", likely meaning that more lamps will become accessible as the quest point cap rises. Mod Ash has also said that there are encounters going up to requirement of 400 quest points and are setup every 50 quest points.
  • Each time you go see Philipe at the different locations his combat level will have gone up a bit as if he was actually training. Dorgeshuun City being the last his level is 100.
