JPEG's and transparency

As it seems I'm the only (or one of the very few) who adds transparency, I'll go ahead and just say it. As JPEG's or images with compression artefacts are already tagged to be replaced, I am going to take them off of the category. They are a nuisance to add transparency to, and end up looking horrible after you do it, then re-upload it as a gif or png. They often end up clogging the top section of this category, which is annoying when I try to add transparency. Karlis (talk) (contribs)

Wait karlis! Your forgetting me! Liam - Beta Tester (talk)

How to?

I would love to be able to add transparency to articles but I'm not really sure how. If anyone could respond on my talk page that would be great. Thanks! My proudest achievement Juliusc01Talk Click here if you think this wiki is obsessed with bunniesN W A F T W 22:13, 27 April 2009 (UTC)

Am I doing something wrong?

I keep trying to upload new files of the images without transparency, but they aren't updating. Its been at least 5 minutes since I uploaded a new version of this image [1] but it's still showing the old version. Anyone know what I may be doing wrong? Also how do I do a direct link to an image, without having it show the actual image? Psycho Robot 01:19, 29 April 2009 (UTC)

I think it just needs time to update. Give it a while, and if it doesn't show, ask someone else to look at it. Also to make a direct link, use something like [[:File:Rune armour set (lg) detail.png]], it should bring up File:Rune armour set (lg) detail.png. ~MuzTalk 01:22, 29 April 2009 (UTC)
Alright thanks! My talents at photoshop don't translate into talents at wikis :P --Psycho Robot 01:24, 29 April 2009 (UTC)
These changes can take hours, Muzzy is right, just be patient. 01:44, 29 April 2009 (UTC)
Ordinarily I wouldn't be impatient, but when uploading the image, it said "It can take up to two minute before the changes appear" or something similar. --Psycho Robot 01:46, 29 April 2009 (UTC)
Its been like 12 hours and there's still no update... Do I just keep waiting or what...? --Psycho Robot 16:34, 29 April 2009 (UTC)
Ok so apparently it takes about a day for the images to update. That's a long time! That "Images may take up to 2 minutes to update" should really be removed! --Psycho Robot 05:23, 30 April 2009 (UTC)
Talking to myself here <_< but the images are uploading MUCH quicker now, only taking a couple minutes at the most. I wonder what happened last night... --Psycho Robot 06:44, 30 April 2009 (UTC)

I'm a bit confused about how we handle ghosts... They're transparent so you can see the ground and other scenery through them. I think they would look silly without their backgrounds. What do you think? --Psycho Robot 20:48, 30 April 2009 (UTC)

The focus of the image is still the ghost but you are right, it can be difficult. I generally follow a simple rule when adding trans to ghost....If I can see through the ghost another player, monster or something that will redirect the focus, I simply don't edit the image. If I can remove the background without hindering the focus such as if behind the ghost I see a wall, then I would usually attempt the trans. 03:04, 4 May 2009 (UTC)
I've just added transparency to File:Hallak.png and I gotta tell you I think it looks pretty terrible. See for yourself: File:Hallak test.png. The ground texture is really distracting, and without any contrast coming from the ground not covered by the ghost, its visually confusing, I think. Its bad enough in this image, but for images like File:Dhalak.png or File:Rennard.png it'll be many times worse, since they're far more transparent. That said, I don't think ghost images should have transparency unless they're very opaque ghosts, like those in Port Phasmatys. --Psycho Robot 06:28, 7 May 2009 (UTC)

Yeah yeah, I'll get back to doing it. Karlis (talk) (contribs)
