The chicken cage is a quest item used in the One Small Favour quest. It is obtained by talking to Seth Groats on his farm on the road between Lumbridge and Varrock. The player is asked to take three steel bars to Horvik in Varrock in return for the cages. However, Horvik will not make the cages until the player gives him a herbal tincture, some breathing salts and five pigeon cages. The chicken cages must then be taken to Seth Groats to complete the next step in the quest. Should you lose a cage, you can replace it only by offering 100 coins and another pigeon cage to Horvik.
