Chimes are a currency used in the closed market on Waiko. They can be received by trading in resources such as bamboo, tarpon, and wushrooms. Chimes earned in this way cannot be transferred to player-owned ports, but they can be used to purchase ports resources, which can be used there. Chimes can also be found on the uncharted isles. Chimes are automatically added into the pouch and cannot be taken out. Motherlode Maw can still award the chimes in their item form, and they may be later added to the currency pouch.
Initially, a maximum of 20,000 chimes can be earned per day through trade. Cap increases can be purchased in the Waiko Reward Shop, with an increase of 5,000 chimes per tier. Purchasing both tiers of cap increase brings the final maximum up to 30,000 chimes traded per day.
Collecting chimes[]
Increasing output[]
Chimes earned can be increased by the following:
- Upgrading Commodity sell price from the Waiko Reward Shop (see Chimes per commodity)
- Augmented tools with Honed and Polishing perks (only bamboo, salt, and fish below sillago)
- Using any Golem outfit (only mining), Shark outfit (only fishing), or Nature's sentinel outfit (only woodcutting)
- Wearing a Mining cape, Fishing cape, or Thieving cape to use the cape's perk
- Any tier of Call of the sea, Lumberjack, Quarrymaster or Tracker auras (for each respective activity)
- Perfect plus potion (or respective perfect woodcutting/fishing juju potions)
- Using a beaver, lava titan, granite lobster, or other gathering skill boosting familiars
- Wearing a modified sous chef's toque and using a portable range or the Waiko grill (unlockable for 500 chimes) while processing fish oil and cooking gumbo/soup
Pekins[]
Players who lack the level requirements for other chime-collecting methods can look to kill pekins on Waiko towards the south side of the trade hub. Pekins drop raw pekin and will also periodically lay eggs, which can both be sold to Tang for 1 chime each.
Players may find it helpful to turn on Area Looting under improved looting to quickly loot the raw pekins and eggs; if looting this way, it is advised to bring a bonecrusher so that bones will not clog up the player's inventory. aggression potions may also be used to decrease click intensity, as well as using combat abilities that can target multiple enemies such as ricochet or chain.
Bamboo[]
Players with level 90+ Woodcutting may decide to use a beaver familiar to increase the rate of bamboo collection and the Polishing perk for the chance of increased chimes per bamboo.
Players can then either sell the bamboo to Zhuka, although this is not advised as players will only get one chime per bamboo. With level 96 Fletching, players can turn five piles of bamboo into a bundle, which can be sold to her for 10 chimes each. It is recommended to bundle it, even if players do not have the required level, as it is assistable and effectively turns the sale price for each bamboo into 2 chimes each.
Bamboo can also be found on the Uncharted Isles, although the player should not cut there unless it is very close to the boat. Golden Bamboo can also be found, which requires level 96 Woodcutting rather then the usual 90. Two piles of golden bamboo are needed to turn it into a bundle of bamboo.
Tarpon fishing[]
Players with level 90+ Fishing may consider using Summoning familiars such as a granite lobster and Perfect juju fishing potions or Perfect plus potions to increase the rate of raw tarpon fishing. Since no additional chimes may be earned from cooking tarpon into fish oil (would require 91 Cooking), one may decide to sell them directly to Fish Oil Sales for chimes.
Whale's Maw fishing[]
For players with level 92+ Fishing, quicker chime-collecting via fishing can be accessed if the bank depository is unlocked on Whale's Maw and the player banks the raw seerfish and sillago, then later converting them into fish oil (requiring 91 Cooking) on any range or fire.
It is advised to cook the fish at portable ranges or the Waiko grill as it can occasionally double fish oil production, increasing profits. Cooking gauntlets are encouraged to limit the chances of burning the fish, destroying profits.
Tortles[]
On Whale's Maw, there is a hunting area on the west side that can be used to easily hunt regular tortles with level 90+ Hunter. However, both regular and ornate tortles can be found on the Uncharted Isles. Players will need up to five tortle traps, which can be received free from Reggie. The tortle chippings stack up, allowing the player to stay there indefinitely. If there are too many people hunting at Whale's Maw, it is advised to either hop to another world or simply search for tortles in the Uncharted Isles. A single chime will occasionally be unearthed by tortles while checking traps.
Crafting the chippings (level 91 Crafting) is recommended as players will get more chimes from the resulting bowl compared to selling the chippings alone.
Crablets[]
Crablets can only be found on Uncharted Isles, from salty, alaea, and idol crablets. Crabletines give sea salt and are found on Cyclosis.
The resulting salt can then be sold to Yi Yan (salt merchant) for chimes, or used for arc gumbos or shark soups.
Wobbegongs[]
Fishing spots for wobbegongs (requiring 96 Fishing) can only be found on the Uncharted Isles. At 96 Cooking, two wobbegongs can be converted into one wobbegong oil, which can be sold to Waiko's Fish Oil Sales for Chimes.
It is advised to cook the wobbegongs (level 96 Cooking) at portable ranges or the Waiko grill as it can occasionally double wobbegong oil production, increasing profits. A Cooking cape can be used if the player has level 99 in Cooking to prevent burning wobbegong, otherwise Cooking gauntlets are advised to limit the chances of burning wobbegong.
Arc gumbo and shark soup[]
Arc gumbo and shark soup give a little more chimes when previous resources are combined when in hand. By Cooking the value can be increased even further, especially when done on a portable range or the Waiko grill for the chance of duplicate soups.
Organising one's resources and making soups increases the chimes per hour rate more than selling the ingredients individually. It is recommended to have a claimed large island with plenty of rare resource locations, as these reset daily and the cost of travelling to a claimed island is only 3 supplies. Transmuting resources via ancestral energy may turn a chime profit if it allows the player to make more soups.
Contracts[]
Instead of grinding one method for chimes, players may also complete contracts. Talk to Sojobo on Waiko, Hubbub on Whale's Maw, or Ling on Aminishi to obtain a contract. Hubbub's contracts are for Whale's Maw fishing only, and Ling's contracts are for killing Acolytes of Seiryu only. Sojobo's contracts are more rewarding in experience and chimes, though the contract can be for any skill involved in the Arc, or for scavenging on Uncharted Isles. There is also a toggle for only receiving contracts completed on Uncharted Islands on the contract board behind him. Once the contract is completed, it must be handed back to its respective master on the beach to get chimes and experience. Only 3 contracts can be completed a day, which can be upgraded four times, allowing one additional contract each for a maximum of 7.
Berries of the Arc[]
After growing all 16 varieties of berries in the planters at the Tuai Leit square, Ani agrees to tend to the player's berry bushes while they are away, granting 10% extra experience and yield. Seeds and berries can be sold for about 800 chimes every 42 hours.
Miniquests[]
The following amount of chimes and materials are awarded for doing the set of miniquests:
- Flag Fall: 500 chimes, 2 taijitu
- Head of the Family: 1300 chimes, 5 taijitu, 30 fish oil, 4 bundles of bamboo
- Spiritual Enlightenment: 250 chimes, 3 taijitu
- Jed Hunter: 2000 chimes, 10 taijitu
- Eye for an Eye: 250 chimes, 1 taijitu, 25 alaea sea salt
- Harbinger: 250 chimes, 2 taijitu
- Tuai Leit's Own: 500 chimes, 2 taijitu, 50 rumberries, 50 ancestral energy
- Ghosts from the Past: 500 chimes, 2 taijitu
- Damage Control: 3000 chimes, 2 taijitu
- Final Destination: 2000 chimes, 10 taijitu
Actual profit may vary, as players are required to visit the Uncharted Isles several times.
Chimes per commodity[]
Resources gathered in the Arc can be sold for chimes in Waiko market area. Following is the table showing how many chimes per commodity can be earned. Unlocking Commodity sell price can be upgraded twice and increases the chimes earned by 11% each.
