- For information on the familiar used during the 2008 Easter event, see Chocatrice.
Cockatrice are Slayer monsters that require level 25 slayer to kill. They frequently drop Limpwurt roots used in the Herblore skill. Players need to use a mirror shield when fighting these. Because of their high frequency drops of nature runes, Cockatrices may be a good way to acquire these for high alchemy spells.
In the quest Fur 'n' Seek, its skin must be collected and cleaned for the Odd Old Man.
Locations
Strengths and weaknesses
Players must use a mirror shield when fighting these. If a regular shield (or no shield at all) is equipped, then the cockatrice will shoot out beams from its eyes and quickly reduce a player's stats to dangerously low levels (1/4 of the player's original levels) and will rapidly damage the player for up to 11 damage per hit (it does more damage the higher your level). They have few hitpoints and do not hit particularly hard unless the player forgets the mirror shield. The slash and crush attack styles seem to be accurate against them.

Trivia
- The cocktrice appears to be a hybrid of a bird and a snake. This is further supported by its examine info, "The winged reptile" and all of its modified summoning counterparts, (such as the spirit zamatrice), which are all cocktrice versions of birds hatched from eggs obtained from a bird's nest. (with the exception of a penguin egg, which can be obtained from the penguin keeper in Ardougne zoo with 30 summoning)
