This is a dangerous activity.
If you die, you will lose your items and will need to reclaim them from Death or your grave.
For corrupted scarabs that spawn in Sophanem Slayer Dungeon, see Corrupted scarab.

Corrupted Scarabs may appear around Shifting Tombs entrances in Menaphos, at the mine in the worker district, and outside the Sophanem Slayer Dungeon periodically. They can be burst to gain a small amount of Reputation and Slayer experience. However, this also deals damage to the player. If multiple players click the same scarab they will all be able to burst it even if one player clicks later and the scarab has already been burst showing the splatter animation where it was. It's not known if this is intentional or a bug.

Background

After a teaser for the Magister, the scarabs started spawning in Menaphos.

Mechanics

  • The scarabs appear in Menaphos occasionally and will remain there for up to 5 minutes.
  • There is a small chance of receiving a small bonus experience star or an amount of coins while bursting them.
  • When scarabs spawn in a world, there is a game message: Agitated scarabs have burrowed up onto the surface and are spreading corruption!
  • There is no cap on the amount of reputation and experience that can be gained, however they will scale down based on the amount of scarabs that a player bursts. At first 50 repution is gained for each scarab, which scales down to 25 and then 16.5 after several scarabs have been burst. Eventually granting 10 reputation per scarab. This amount is reset at 00:00 UTC.
  • Swarms appear at all four Shifting Tombs entrances simultaneously. A player may enter the shifting tombs and go back to the same district to respawn swarms rather than quick travelling to another district.

Tips

  • Players can right-click the entrances to Shifting Tombs in order to quickly travel between districts in Menaphos. This is useful for locating scarabs, and going to the available bank in the Merchant district.
