The cosmic altar

The Cosmic Altar is found in the south of Zanaris near the shady grove. Players may enter it by using a cosmic talisman or a cosmic tiara on the ruins after completing the Lost City quest. Access to the altar can also be gained via the Abyss or through Cosmic altar teleport (requiring 50 Runecrafting). With a high Agility level, there are some shortcuts that can be taken at 46 and 66 to shorten the distance between the ruins and the bank. These shortcuts entail passing a damaged wall that will cause damage if failed. Once inside, players may cross an invisible bridge in space to create cosmic runes with pure essence. As with most other runecrafting altars, it can be accessed via the Abyss. Players could also enter its ruins by using a cosmic talisman or an Omni-talisman on it, or simply clicking the ruins while wearing a cosmic tiara, Omni-tiara, a wicked hood imbued with any of the above, an Omni-talisman staff or a cosmic talisman staff.

Currently, the fastest way to get there is to use the wicked hood's teleport, which could only be used twice a day and only after feeding it with any of the items above except the talisman staves, and breaking a cosmic altar teleport tablet, both to appear just outside the altar. You could obtain a wicked hood by talking to Tam McGrubor, and cosmic altar teleport tablets by playing Great Orb Project. They cost 39 Runecrafting guild tokens each.

The colour of the cosmic altar changed around November 2009, to marble coloured stones and a purple vein.

Glitches

There was once a glitch where a player could bypass the walls and walk straight into the darkness of the cosmic altar. This led players to almost anywhere in RuneScape, only with nobody else there, apart from the fellow glitch users. (See Noclip Glitch)

Another glitch that some players may have shows the character's legs disappearing during the runecrafting process. This happens at all altars, and also occurs when fletching.

A very rare, minor glitch that a few players experienced was the cosmic altar would only craft single cosmic runes, even if you had the required Runecrafting level to craft double cosmic runes. This was fixed a few hours later by Jagex. This glitch happened in 2006.
