RuneScape used to treat combat with Death spawns as a non-combat situation which meant tha the auto-retaliate setting had no effect against them. Nowadays however combat with death spawns is considered a normal combat situation so auto-retaliate will have normal effect. This also means that the Lumbridge Home Teleport is now also interrupted by death spawns.

[FAQ] [doc]

Template:Floor Death spawns appear when players try to kill Nechryaels. When attacked, a Nechryael may summon up to two Death spawns to help attack the player.

Death spawns are demons, so Silverlight and Darklight affect them.

A death spawn only exists for a limited amount of time after being summoned by the Nechryael. It fades away at the end of its time, even if engaged in combat with a player. Players could kill deaths spawns targeting another player, and they won't retaliate. They don't need 80 slayer to do so.

Sometimes death spawns would wander off instead of attacking the player slaying the nechryael. Another player attacking these would face their retaliation.

Death spawns make the same sounds as Vampyres when they attack and when they are hit.

When using a Guthan's set while fighting Nechryael, Death spawns are useful targets for healing with Guthan's, as they have low defence, a low max hit, and a fair number of life points for their level. Death spawns attack using a magic based attack. Therefore, Protect from Magic or Deflect Magic will work against them, while it hits easily through the melee armour. This can be dangerous while fighting Nechryaels while using Dharok's set effect.

Although they are the lowest levelled monster to drop accursed ashes, it is recommended that players looking for this drop kill lesser demons as they are much more abundant.
