Deathbeard's Demise button

Deathbeard's Demise was a time-limited event, similar to Birth by Fire, held at the shores of the Lumbridge Swamp, south of Father Urhney's house. It ran until the start of 30 January 2017, and Captain Deathbeard stuck around until 12 February 2017 for last minute hand-ins.

Within this event, the player gathered phantom doubloons for Captain Deathbeard, who found he had been killed and become undead after his ship had been attacked by an unknown creature.

Each time that the player logged in during the event, they would be greeted with one of the following announcements:

  • Captain Deathbeard, a fearsome pirate of the deathly seas, has landed on Gielinor's shores - head to Lumbridge Swamp now!
  • Head over to Lumbridge Swamp now in order to assist Captain Deathbeard and his quest for doubloons.

Daily limit[]

The player could only collect up to 1,000 phantom doubloons every day, resetting at 00:00 UTC. This limit could be extended by using an 1-day event daily limit extender or 5-day event daily limit extender, available through the shop, inside the Seasonal Event tab in the Community interface in-game. They were bought with RuneCoins, and let players buy boosts that allow them to gather an additional 1,000 doubloons per day for as long as the boost was active. The phantom doubloons could also be bought directly from the shop with RuneCoins.

Gathering rate[]

The phantom doubloons were rewarded at most every three minutes and were guaranteed from a skilling action. Thus, it was sufficient to gain a single drop of experience every three minutes to get the full benefits from gathering.

For training skills that weren't combat, Agility or Thieving, on average 24.5 doubloons were obtained at a time, resulting in an hourly average of 490 doubloons, so on average a bit over two hours were required for the normal daily limit, or four hours if the event daily limit extender boost was active.

Combining or replacing the above method with combat, Agility, Thieving, Treasure Trails or daily challenges could reduce the time required by up to 20%, from 3 minutes to 2 minutes and 24 seconds, saving up to 36 seconds every round.

Rewards[]

The rewards were unlocked at certain thresholds of phantom doubloons turned in:

Doubloons Reward
1,000 Captain Deathbeard's Hat
2,000 Captain Deathbeard's Doublet
3,000 Captain Deathbeard's Breeches
4,000 Event mystery box

6,000 Big event mystery box
7,000 Captain Deathbeard's Hook
8,500 Phantom Deathbeard's Outfit
10,000 Scurvy

Excess doubloons could be handed in for mystery boxes.
