Decoder strips are used during Dimension of Disaster: Defender of Varrock to crack the code to the treasure room safe, and destroy the black prism. The decoder strips can be easily be obtained on the 1st floor[UK] of the New Varrock Palace in the room with the Armoured zombies by searching the crate of decoder strips.
These same decoder strips are later used in Dimension of Disaster: Curse of Arrav to crack the code to unlock the vault door to retrieve Arrav's heart.
