Deflect Summoning
[view][talk]

Deflect Summoning is one of the Ancient Curses which protects from and deflects damage caused by Summoning scrolls and enemy familiars. It can also be used together with one other Deflect curse. It has the same drain rate as the Protect from Summoning prayer. It is widely considered to be useless, as few use familiars as a main direction of offence, and few NPCs use Summoning.

It does NOT work on some familiars, mostly the stronger ones including Iron titans and Steel titans. Instead of Deflect Summoning, players should use Deflect Melee when fighting against Iron titan or Steel titan when in melee distance; when not within melee distance against Steel titan, players should use Deflect Missiles.

It may also be worth noting that familiars use the combat triangle to deal damage, and that praying against the point on the combat triangle that the familiar is attacking with will achieve identical results. Deflection damage is dealt on the familiar, not the summoner.

Deflect Summoning will grant you 50% damage reduction against most attacks and special attacks from familiars. Deflect Summoning has a chance to reflect damage back at your familiar attacker, and the damage reflected is 10% of the damage the attack would have done if not blocked by the deflect curse.

In order to use this curse, you must have the Ancient Curses activated, which requires completion of The Temple at Senntisten quest.

Trivia

  • According to the ancient hymnal, Deflect Summoning's verbal incantation is "Arceto impetum bestarium recreatorum."[sic] (I hinder the attack of revived beasts.)
