Dragon claws were released with the While Guthix Sleeps quest. Players need level 60 Attack to wield them. The claws feature a special attack called "Slice and Dice", which takes up 50% of the special attack bar, and hits an enemy four times within one turn. When two specials are used back-to-back, a player can hit eight times in two attacks, which is similar to the dragon dagger's special which can hit two times in one attack, therefore hitting eight times in four attacks. They are especially notable because their rune counterpart also have a special attack, making claws the only type of weapon where both the dragon and rune versions have a special attack. Players should note that the Dragon claws, when first released, started in the Grand Exchange at 150k but the demand has pushed them up to extremely high prices. The dragon dagger is more commonly used, as it is much cheaper, and all eight of the dragon dagger's eight hits average out to be higher then the dragon claw's eight hits.

Dragon claws may be obtained after the quest While Guthix Sleeps by killing Tormented Demons. However, players do not need to complete the quest to wear them or to use their special attack.

The Dragon claws' special attack.

The Dragon claws Special attack is based on the 1st hit, is then divided into half, then of 1/4, and then it hits for the same again. For example, If a player hits a 40 on the first hit, the special would be 40-20-10-10. If it is odd, like 41, it will be 41-20-10-11, to average the 3 split hits with the first hit. This means that the Dragon claws essentially doubles the damage into four separate hits, ensuring its maximum potential.
It is notable that occasionally, the final two attacks do not occur, usually due to low attack on the part of the aggressor, or high defence on the part of the target. This instance will include two hits, comprising of a 1 and 0 hit. Other than this instance, the special attack will never hit a total of zero unless the target is using the prayer Protect from Melee. In this case, a 0-0 will appear.

Since their release into the game with a starting price of 150,000 coins, the price of Dragon claws had begun to rise dramatically by the highest percentage in the history of the Grand Exchange by player-demand only (not including Jagex's own price modifications of objects). After just 30 days following their release, Dragon claws had risen by 2,142%, gaining a total of more than 6 million Coins. As of 31 January the Grand Exchange indicated a mid price for claws of 38,026,395 Coins, meaning they have risen 25,351% from their initial price. At one point, they reached 41 million coins, but then dropped and settled at around 25 million.

In spite of the fact that there was a market crash, by the time Soul Wars came through the price of the claws continued ascending to the current price of 28m because of the fact it had happened because Soul Wars offers crowded areas for Dragon claws users to kill to their heart's content with great rewards.

Dragon claws have become an incredible spectacle amongst higher level players. High levelled and wealthy players have found that this weapon is extremely useful in killing other players in PVP worlds, further driving demand. Earlier however, the frenzied demand for this weapon has resulted in documented cases of players, desperate for a set of claws, paying 5-10+ times more than the GE price for a single set, usually junk trading the average out.

However, the turning point came on 31 January 2009 when people were selling claws for less than their market price. Still, the claws have seen the highest increase ever in a single object, having risen by demand only for 67 days straight since release, being bumped 37,876,395 Coins over their starting price and is still the most expensive Dragon item.

Dragon claws came to a steady point at 27.8 million in the beginning of May.

Trivia

This is the only weapon with which a player can attack up to 4 times with one attack.
Sometimes a player using the Dragon claw's special twice in a row on the second special may only hit 2 times instead of the usual 4. This is not a glitch. Since the special attack is 4 separate hits, if the enemy dies after one of the hits, the following hits do not occur.
The Dragon claws can average about 50 or 60 a hit at a high strength level.
