Dragon Claws were released with the While Guthix Sleeps quest. Players need level 60 Attack to wield them. The claws feature a special attack, Slice and Dice, which hits an enemy four times within one turn, using 50% of the special power, allowing the player to hit 8 times in two attacks, which is similar to the dragon dagger's special. This is especially notable because Rune Claws also have a special attack, making claws the only type of weapon where both the dragon and rune versions have a special attack. Note that the dragon claws, when first released, started in the Grand Exchange at about 200-250k. Most players think they're only worth about 200k-250k at the most, but the demand has pushed them up to insane prices.

Dragon claws can be obtained after the quest While Guthix Sleeps by killing Tormented Demons. However, players do not need to complete the quest to wear them nor to use their Special Attack.

The Grand Exchange Database price graph for the first 30 days after release.

Since their release, the price of the dragon claws has dramatically risen by the second highest percentage in the history of the Grand Exchange, starting off at about 120,000 - 130,000 coins. After 30 days after its release, the dragon claws have dramatically risen by 2,142%, gaining a total of more than 6 million coins, the claws are still expected to rise even more. This is extremely rare due to the fact that most new high level or rare items are ridiculously high in price when introduced and then dramatically decrease after a short while. The only other item to attain an increase higher than this was granite 5kg after the update that allowed it to be broken down for use in Summoning. Dragon claws have also become an incredible spectacle amongst higher level players. Recently, these high leveled and wealthy players have found that this weapon is extremely useful in killing other players in PVP worlds, making dragon claws become so popular and sought out that players are offering up to 5-10+ times more than the GE price for a single set of dragon claws. As of late if a player places a offer for max within 1 hour of a price update that player would be able to purchase the claws before the next price update. They are selling at a more frequent rate which is a sign that this item will stabilize shortly.

For example, a player can find on the RuneScape marketplace forums that other players are buying dragon claws for prices ranging from 20 million coins to well over 100 million coins, while the GE price is (although steadily rising) only 20.6 million coins. These players find their way around the trade limit by one side of the trade (the selling side) offering junk such as maple bows (u) and other items to balance the trade out.

Players have also been known to be selling or even lending their Dragon claws for opulent tables, due to the fact that these flatpacks can be traded to Advisor Ghrim more then 2 times their worth with the Fremennik Sea Boots 3.

Special Attack

File:Epic Dragon Claw Special.gif

The Dragon claws' special attack.

The special attack of dragon claws does not consist of four disjoint hits; the four hits, when summed together, cannot hit for more than twice of the player's maximum hit. The second, third, and fourth hits are much weaker than the first.

The formula for the special attack seems to be that the first hit is split as close to half as possible, i.e 35 split into 17 and 18, and one of those two will be the second hit. The third and fourth hits are equivalent to the other hit, i.e if the player hits 35, 17, they would hit two 9s for the last two hits, or if they hit 18 instead of 17, the player would hit 9 and 8. However, if their first attack hits a 0, and the second attack hits a 0, the third attack will almost always be a 0 as well, but the fourth attack will now be very strong, sometimes hitting 40+.

A close formula for the hit of Dragon Claws where X is a player's base hit is:
x + 0.5X rounded down + 0.255x rounded up + 0.255x rounded down.

There are other cases of hits and this will list most if not all of them.

1 miss:
0x + 1x + 0.5055x rounded down + 0.5055x rounded up.
(Same if the first hit hits and second one misses)
2 misses:
0x + 0x + 1.055x rounded up + 1.055x rounded down.
3 misses:
0x + 0x + 0x + 1.255x

There has not been a different sequence of attacks seen yet.

Dragon Claw's special attack is also very accurate because players have 4 chances to hit and if one of those chances lands a blow on the target, then it will guarantee the player's next hits to do damage.

Trivia

  • The Dragon Claws are the first weapon to have a special attack along with their rune counterpart.
  • The Dragon Claws are currently the most expensive Dragon item in RuneScape, even passing the Dragon full helm, there haven't been passed, since it was released.
