Dragon equipment is a range of tier 60 equipment available to pay-to-play players. With the exception of darts and arrows, Dragon items are made of a hard, dark-red metal called Orikalkum (the former being made of dragon talons). It is believed that Dragon equipment was created by the Necrosyrtes, a faction of the Dragonkin, and distributed to shops by the Consortium of Extra-Planar Merchandise Transferral Specialists.

Effect on the economy[]

Since their initial release, Dragon equipment has had a profound effect on the economy of the game. For a long time, Runite equipment was the best available to players and was highly sought-after for that reason. The introduction of the rarer and significantly-better Dragon items caused Rune to permanently fall in price. Dragon equipment has declined in price over time as higher-level items have become available. Many Dragon items have settled at around their high-alchemy price, however some items, such as the Dragon full helm and the Dragon platebody, have remained valuable due to their rarity, cosmetic appearance, and prestige.

Weapons[]

Dragon weapons are weapons requiring level 60 Attack to wield (or level 60 Ranged for several existing ranged weapons or 60 Magic for battlestaves respectively). Except for darts, arrows and crossbows, they cannot be created by players, and are generally obtained as drops from various high-levelled monsters, though some can be bought from specific stores (and of course from the Grand Exchange or from other players). Most offer access to a Special attack, except for darts and every weapon released after the Evolution of Combat. Many require the completion of a specific quest to be wielded.

Daggers, claws, longswords, maces and scimitars can be upgraded to a superior tier 70 version using a Wilderness hilt.

Armour[]

Dragon armour is tier 60 tank armour, requiring level 60 Defence (and, in many cases, a quest) to wear. lt is seen by many players as the next step up from the tier 50 Rune armour, although tier 55 Granite armour offers defensive bonuses between the two, despite not being a metal and consisting of only six items.

The Dragon square shield is created by combining a Shield left half with a Shield right half on an anvil, which requires level 60 Smithing. Note that the Legends' Quest has to be completed to be able to wield or make this shield. To repair the Dragon platebody, level 92 Smithing is required, along with a Blast fusion hammer. There are 3 parts needed to smith the Dragon platebody: the Ruined dragon armour slice, the Ruined dragon armour lump and the Ruined dragon armour shard. Players can only smith this in the Ancient Caverns, and 2,000 Smithing experience is gained for doing so. The Assist System may be used to repair the Dragon platebody.

Superior dragon weapons[]

Superior dragon weapons are dragon weapons that have been upgraded using a Wilderness hilt, purchased from the Bounty Hunter & Deathmatch Reward Shop. The upgrade increases the weapons' stats from tier 60 to 70 while retaining special attacks, and also increases the Attack level required to equip. They are distinguishable from regular dragon weapons in that superior dragon weapons have hilts and other details that are coloured a dark blue.

Unreleased dragon items[]

Main article: Upcoming updates

Dragon equipment has been slowly released into the game over the last several years. At the present, the only standard weapon that does not exist in-game is the shortsword. While Jagex has confirmed all Dragon items will be added to the game at some point, no release date for the Dragon shortsword currently exists.

Trivia[]

Dragon Weapons

All dragon weapons confirmed.

Dragon equipment update

More concept art.

  • Dragon equipment has been a frequent subject of Jagex's April Fools jokes in the past. Spinning plates (a white ceramic plate with a small picture of a dragon) were released on 4 April 2005 in reply to the constant demand for the then-unreleased Dragon platebody, and Toy kites were released on 1 April 2008 foreshadowing the actual release of the dragon kiteshield four years later.
  • Dragon arrow and dragon dart tips are actually made from a dragon's talons and not from dragon metal; this may explain why they are not red in colour.
  • Prior to the Evolution of Combat, dragon arrows could only be fired from a Dark bow, which had two special attacks that depend on whether dragon or other arrows are equipped.
  • Oddly, the Dragon platebody requires only 92 Smithing to repair, while the Rune platebody (requiring level 50 Defence to equip) requires 99 Smithing to make and the Tetsu platebody (for players with level 85 Defence) requires only level 90 Smithing to create.
  • On 6 March 2012, Dragon armour, along with many other armours, received a graphical rework.
  • Dragon equipment is the only standard metal to incorporate weapons of all three Ranged, Melee and Magic attack styles.
