The Dragon spear is the fourth strongest spear available, just after Vesta's spear, the Zamorakian Spear, and Guthan's warspear. This two-handed weapon can be wielded by members who have at least 60 Attack. As with most spears, it may be poisoned; it is the strongest spear that can be poisoned as the Zamorakian Spear, Vesta's spear and Guthan's Warspear cannot be. It is an extremely rare drop from the Rare drop table

The Dragon spear has a special attack, Shove, which pushes a suitable target back a square and stuns it for three seconds, using up 25% of a player's special attack energy. While stunned, the target will not be able to eat nor equip any armour pieces. This makes the special attack extremely useful in the Clan Wars activity to prevent other players from healing. The spear was commonly used in the Bounty Hunter activity to push players away from the door until the Bounty Worlds update on 6 May 2009. It is also used in Castle Wars to push players into a cleared passage, which, when collapsed, causes instant death to anyone in it. The Dragon Spear is a cheap option for a weapon when fighting the Corporeal Beast for those who do not wish to spend so much money on a Dragon Halberd or Zamorakian Spear. Shove, however, cannot be used against large monsters that take up more than one square (anything that the Dragon halberd hits twice against), such as the big wolf. If a player tries this, the special attack does not occur (no special attack energy is used up), and a message appears in the chat box: "That creature is too large to knock back!".

The Dragon spear is perfect for players who do not wish to complete any quests to get their first dragon weapon. The spear is very versatile, having attack bonuses and attack styles for stab, slash, and crush. The Dragon spear also provides a +5 defence bonus to every field of defence, including magic. Adding Karambwan Paste makes it even more deadly, as many players do not carry an antipoison potion.

Trivia

  • When a player uses the special attack of a Dragon/Zamorakian spear on another player, the victim can sometimes run while being stunned. This glitch has not yet been fixed.
  • Before an update in 2006, the Dragon Spear was a possible drop from a Paladin.
  • Unlike its corrupted counterpart, the dragon spear has a silver handle instead of a black handle.
  • It is hypothesized that every monster that drops gems has a very small chance of dropping the dragon spear. This comes from the idea of the rare drop table. The rare drop table however is only accessible from certain monsters, so there are some monsters that drop gems, but do not give drops from the rare drop table.
  • After the release of the RuneTek 5 game engine the Dragon spear special attack did not work. This has now been fixed.
  • The spear's special attack, Shove, when used on a werewolf, initiates combat, but does not cause it to transform into wolf form. Once the player uses any attack with the potential to deal damage, with the spear or any other weapon (other than Wolfbane), the werewolf transforms into its wolf form.
  • The Dragon spear is one of the few dragon weapons not requiring a completion of a quest in order to wield.
  • The Dragon Spears special attack is frequently used in Castle Wars to push opposing players into collapsing caves. This strategy is usually used with the explosive potion as it can easily collapse walls instantly, unlike the pickaxes which usually won't bring down caves within the 3 seconds of stun time the Special Attack causes to opponents.
  • Before the bug was fixed, if the special attack was used on a Cow calf it would be shoved back but not stunned. This is the only known instance of this occurring.
  • Note that spears cannot be used on safe spots like halberds, despite its length.
  • The spear used to be considered extremely rare before the Grand Exchange came out (fetching prices upwards of 1m); However when the Grand Exchange came out, it quickly dropped.
  • The dragon spear could shove Zenevivia off statues during the fight in Love Story, making the battle considerably easier.
