When installed in a gizmo, energising reduces the damage of Slice and Piercing Shot to 80% of their original ability damage — e.g., Slice now deals 24–96% ability damage, instead of its original 30–120%.
Despite the in-game description, Wrack's ability damage is not affected, and ranks 1 and 3 of energising provides an additional 0.7 adrenaline instead of the stated 0.6.
If used with an optimal damage ability rotation, Energising can improve the speed of maxing out an adrenaline bar by up to 3%, at the cost of 0.25% of 1% of the player's DPS from the affected basic abilities. However, because threshold and ultimate ability DPS is directly linked to how quickly a player can generate adrenaline, this equates to about the same increase in DPS as the speed of the bar or about 3% more DPS from thresholds and ultimates. However, this does not factor in adrenaline saving effects or critical hits, which could push the DPS increase to as high as 4.3%.
