Explosive components are rare materials used in the Invention skill. Level 49 Invention is required to discover them at an Inventor's workbench and use them in a gizmo; however, this level is not required to obtain them.

History
Due to these components giving a much higher experience rate at release, they were very sought-after, causing hand cannons to rise dramatically in price. Many people got level 99 and 120 at release due to these components. This caused Jagex to issue an apology with a news post concerning the issue.
