Equipment[]
By far, the most effective equipment that can be used in the Fight Cauldron is the obsidian armour, which has level 60 multi-class stats and provides damage reduction as well as accuracy bonuses against TzHaar and TokHaar monsters. Its damage reduction can be temporarily improved by donating TokKul to the coffer just outside the Fight Cauldron's entrance. 80 Defence and 85 Smithing are required to make and wear the full set of obsidian armour; the Smithing requirement can be assisted. However, as obsidian armour can only be made by killing creatures in the Fight Cauldron, it will not immediately be available to a player who is just starting out.
Players who do not own obsidian armour should bring Warpriest armour and switch weapons based on the monster weaknesses. Monster weaknesses in the Fight Cauldron are crush attacks, bolts, and water spells for melee, Ranged, and Magic respectively.
Even if a hybrid set is not owned, follow the hybrid table below, but instead of hybrid chest and leg armour, bring two styles of chest and leg armour in addition to two weapon styles, such as Armadyl chestplate for Ranged and Garb of subjugation for Magic. Swap these armour out when changing weapons to their respective styles, like switching to Armadyl armour alongside an Attuned crystal bow when fighting a magic-using TokHaar-Ket-Zek.
Hybrid is the recommended setup to participate in the Fight Cauldron. Only weapons will need to be switched, as you likely will take more damage from missing a floor tile becoming superheated than the damage difference between hybrid armour sets and style-specific ones. While the guide recommends tier 90 weapons, the Cauldron can be completed comfortably using tier 80 weapons with 80+ combat stats.

Strategy[]
There is no end to the Fight Cauldron; wave after wave of TokHaar monsters will spawn until you die or leave.
Priority #1 - Avoid hot floors[]
Keep an eye on the floor. Standing on a hot section of the floor will deal damage equal to 20% of your life points every game tick, which can kill you in a hurry. A common cause of death among players is to get distracted by the fights and lose focus on the floor for a moment, at which point it heats up and begins to deal damage. The hot sections change at regular intervals, and with a little practice, you can learn the interval and mentally note the time at which you need to check your section of floor. Remember that the north-middle floor section is always hot, so avoid it at all times.
The best way to minimise damage from the floor is to always stand near one of the two southern corners of the middle section, as these corners border four different sections. This requires the player to move only one tile to safety, regardless of which floor tiles are heated. The two northern corners border the north-middle section, which is always heated. This can be more difficult when meleeing, but easier when ranging and maging.
Priority #2 - Use their weakness[]
Tailor your equipment to your enemies. If you are wearing obsidian armour and using otherwise multi-class equipment, you will only need to change weapons and helms in order to adjust your combat style. Otherwise, you will need to use the different equipment sets you brought in.
At 90+ combat stats, switching armour sets proves unnecessary, as switching weapons while using obsidian or other hybrid armour sets will suffice.
Priority #3 - Pray against your own weakness[]
Most of the possible waves only contain monsters of a single combat style, but occasionally a wave will appear with monsters of three styles. When this happens, turn on the protection prayer of the style you're weakest against, if any, and quickly kill the monster against which you are strongest. Then, switch to a style that is best against the two remaining monsters, turn off your prayer, and defeat them. For example, if one of these waves appears and you are currently wearing Magic equipment, turn on Protect from Missiles/Deflect Missiles and kill the melee monster. Since Ranged and Magic monsters are left, switch to Ranged equipment and kill the Magic monster, then switch to melee equipment and kill the Ranged monster.
At higher levels, Soul Split may be used throughout the Cauldron. If taking too much damage, it is recommended to use Protect from Magic/Deflect Magic for TokHaar-Ket-Zek, and Protect from Melee/Deflect Melee for TokHaar-Hok, as these have the highest accuracy and max hit of the Cauldron enemies.
Priority #4 - Exit instead of die[]
Players no longer need to collect monsters' obsidian shard drops after kills. Shards will be collected and given to you automatically when you exit the cave. However, note that if you die in the Fight Cauldron, the number of obsidian shards you receive afterwards will be halved.
Try to make obsidian armour as quickly as you can. You will need a total of 228 obsidian shards to make every piece of obsidian equipment. On average, this will take 66 kills in the Cauldron.
Other Tips[]
- The banker outside allows free healing. Prayer will not be restored automatically, but can easily be restored - leave the cauldron to claim the Obsidian shards, re-enter, and die in the perpetual lava of the top-middle tile. Since it is a safe death, your prayer will be restored at no loss.
- If a wave spawns that you cannot defeat, walk out of the Cauldron. You will not lose any obsidian shards, and that wave of enemies will despawn after a short time, allowing you to re-enter with a different wave.
- With the exception of the armour and weapons, all drops are noted, so 4-6 inventory slots should be empty if you wish to collect all of the drops from many consecutive waves.
