PNG is way weird. This non-indexed Enhanced Excalibur is way smaller than the regular , wtf? User:Kytti khat/sig 18:20, 21 January 2009 (UTC)

PNG is actually not the ideal format for the normal Excalibur image. I've uploaded a new, GIF version. As the image only contains 45 colors (including transparency), GIF is non-lossy. The image also has a lot of horizontal repetition, meaning GIF's LZW compression method is ideal. The old PNG version is about six times the size of the new GIF version. The GIF version can be found at Image:Excalibur.gif.

There was nothing wrong with the old version, it was simply commentary, sheesh. 2.9k is not overwhelming unlike many of the ridiculous sprawling-sized images and over-active animations that clog up this wiki. still i'm sure some dial-up user will thank you someday.
