The Fire cape, along with 16,064 tokkul, is the reward received from defeating TzTok-Jad. TzTok-Jad is a level 702 boss found in the TzHaar Fight Cave activity. Players will always receive a fire cape after killing TzTok-Jad, regardless of whether they already own one or not. Any spare fire capes can be kept in a player's bank, although they could also be sold to TzHaar-Mej-Jal for 8,000 tokkul or High Alched for 36,000 coins. If you lose the fire cape, you will have to defeat TzTok-Jad again to receive another one.

The fire cape currently has the highest Defence and Strength bonuses of any cape in RuneScape. (Technically the only cape to have a Strength bonus. True skill mastery capes might also have a strength bonus. This is unconfirmed at the moment). It is, however, surpassed by the god capes in Magic attack bonus, Ava's accumulator/attractor in Ranged attack bonus, and it's Prayer bonus is exceeded by the Ardougne cloak (versions 2 and 3), trimmed Capes of Achievement, Vestment cloaks and Soul Wars cape.

Until 8 February 2010, the cape had to be worn to fight Ice strykewyrms. Without it, the player could not deal any damage, or even get assigned the task. Note: The player must have them as a task to be able to attack them; just having a fire cape is not enough. However, Jagex has implemented an extra reward that allows players who do not own a Fire cape to gain the ability to kill and be assigned Ice Strykewyrms by purchasing it from a Slayer master for 2,000 slayer reward points.

Trivia

File:Kept on death firecape.gif

The 'Items Kept on Death' interface showing the value of a fire cape.

  • According to the Items Kept on Death page, the Fire cape is currently worth 60,000 coins, while its High Level Alchemy value is only 36,000 coins.
  • The Fire cape is one of the few capes to give a Prayer bonus, along with the Ardougne cloak, Trimmed Cape of Accomplishment, Vestment cloaks, and the Soul Wars cape.
  • A problem with the Fire cape when using fairy rings was fixed on 9 November 2009.
  • If one views the cape on someone who is Fishing or something similar, the lava will appear to flow up the cape.
  • The lava graphic on the Fire cape can actually speed up or slow down depending on the environment and graphics settings.
  • With some changes with graphics, a glitch can occur on water textures, making them the Fire cape lava texture.
  • The Fire cape is commonly mistaken as "Lava cape".

Graphical - Animation Bug history

  • On Monday, 22 February 2010 after the Hunter update, players' Fire capes were glitched when changing the texture detail to Low. This was fixed a day later.
  • The Fire cape is the only animated cape in the game. Users have reported not seeing an animation when running High Detail mode with lighting detail off.
  • Previously, the lava on the cape was updated along with RuneScape HD, but because of player complaints, the Fire cape was changed back to its original (and current) animation.
  • Setting all the graphics to low detail caused the fountains in Zanaris, Camelot, and the Wizard's tower to have a similar animation of the fire cape; this has been fixed since then.
  • With the 17 March 2009 updates, there appeared a graphical glitch on Standard Detail Mode, in which the Fire cape would flash colours under certain animations, such as using the spell High Level Alchemy, teleporting, or using Special attacks, thus losing its lava texture for a few seconds. This was fixed a day later.
  • Due to the RuneTek 5 Game Engine Update on 2 September 2009, the Fire cape's animation was slowed down. It is unknown if this is a bug or was intended by Jagex.
  • Another Update with a glitched Fire Cape also occurred on 13 May 2010.
  • There is currently a glitch when running or attacking with a chaotic longsword and a fire cape.
  • If a player is wearing a brown apron , the fire cape would look like a brownish-orange coloured cape with spots.
  • There is a graphical diference when wearing the Fire Cape when either a male or a female. Females Fire Capes are a little buldgier, and have texture on the bottom side of the cape. Where as males have the standard shape of most capes with no texture or detailing on the bottom side. It is unknown if this is intended or a bug.
