A Fishing rod is an item used to catch fish through the Fishing skill. It can be bought from Gerrant's Fishy Business in Port Sarim, Harry's Fishing Shop in Catherby, Hank's Fishing Shop in Lumbridge, or the Grand Exchange for 5 coins.
In order to fish, players must have fishing baits in their inventory and at least one inventory slot to hold a fish (more inventory slots for more fishes). It was once possible to lose your rod from random events, but after the 25 February 2009 updates, it is now impossible for this to happen. Free players can use it to catch Sardines, Herrings, and Pikes. Members can use Blamish snail slime on it to turn it into an Oily fishing rod. The Oily fishing rod can catch eels and eels only taking bait.
