[FAQ] [doc]

The forgotten ranger is a monster encountered in Daemonheim. Their combat level normally corresponds to a tier of armour of the same type. For example, level 20 forgotten rangers wear Tier 2 equipment (subleather armour and a seeping elm shortbow) while level 80 ones wear Tier 5 (dromoleather armour and a spinebeam shortbow). This condition is also noticeable on forgotten warriors and forgotten mages. Like other forgotten human monsters, forgotten rangers have high accuracy and can deal decent damage for their level, but have low Defence and Constitution to compensate.

They are weak against slashing weapons, so those with battleaxes and 2h swords should have no trouble taking them out. Low-level rangers can easily be defeated in any combat style by a high-level player. On the other hand, he/she will have difficulty killing high-level rangers without Protect from Missiles, since these monsters can even hit fairly accurately against high-tier melee armour. It seems like this monster has a smaller variety of levels as compared to their forgotten warrior and mage counterparts (that is, the one wearing tier 3 items is always level 40, while forgotten warriors in tier 3 armour can be level 38, 40, 44 and so on.) They are not very dangerous to those wearing a shadow silk hood, and are generally the given the lowest priority in a room on a hooded team (unless it is the only monster in the room, in which case it will usually be very powerful, usually level 200).

Forgotten rangers also appear in Salt in the Wound.

Monster-specific drops

Weapons and ammunition

Forgotten rangers have a chance to drop a wielded shortbow, or corresponding longbow, as well as arrows (around 1 to 50 or more), of their tier (with the exception of sagittarian rangers, who drop grave creeper bows and promethium arrows). It is possible, and not uncommon, for no weapons to be received at all.

Armour

Forgotten rangers have a chance to drop a random piece of ranged armour of their tier (with the exception of sagittarian rangers, who drop tyrannoleather armour). It is possible, and not uncommon, for no armour to be received at all.

Other drops

Quantities and rarities are random. Dropped food will usually be the second best you can fish and cook and drops in general will become less generous as you progress.

Trivia

  • Thok calls forgotten rangers as cowards who cannot fight, since he thinks bows and arrows are weapons for cowards.
  • Forgotten rangers using sagittarian equipment are the weakest of their high combat level, since their max hit is very low compared to others around their combat level, though the low damage makes up for high accuracy.
