We now have the 'policy' (not sure if that's the right word) that users don't need 50 mainspace edits, but 50 edits anywhere (except User:, User talk: and RuneScape:Sandbox edits), to vote on AotM's and such.

Now, why don't we change this so that you also need those 50 edits, instead of just 50 mainspace edits, to "vote" in a UotM? It seems a bit contradictive to have it in one place, but not the other. Ancient talisman Oil4 Talk 08:45, October 3, 2009 (UTC)

Comment/Request for Closure - Taken from RS:UOTM,

Voters are required to have a minimum of 50 mainspace edits.

So this is already so. — Enigma 16:29, October 5, 2009 (UTC)

That's my point! I am suggesting it to be changed from 50 mainspace to 50 total edits! Am I so unclear? Ancient talisman Oil4 Talk 16:31, October 5, 2009 (UTC)

Support - I see what you mean. That would make sense to me. Theboy1001 18:44, October 5, 2009 (UTC)

Support - I don't see why we shouldn't be consistent. If voting for Article of the Month requires 50 total edits, then voting for User of the Month should require that as well. Editing in the mainspace doesn't really get you involved in the community, so how can you vote for a UotM when you don't know who the person is? (Though I guess you can, because judging by votes I've seen for various UotMs, you don't need a good reason as to why you voted for the person; it's mostly the nominator who provides the reason, while other people support and add some random comment.) I think requiring 50 mainspace edits for UotM is a bit pointless; requiring 50 total edits makes more sense, since that can include posting in Yew Grove discussions, where you can get involved with other wikians and learn a bit about how they think and act.  Tien  20:50, October 5, 2009 (UTC)

Support - Consistency ftw. Weird gloop @Gaz#7521 20:54, October 5, 2009 (UTC)

Support - Consistency is good. It makes it much less confusing for new editors. Have the requirements the same for all votes that use them. Also, new editors will understand "I have to have 50 edits before I can vote in AOTM and UOTM" as opposed to our current system which looks pretty confusing to me. Support - Lets be consistent. Smile - TehKittyCat (talk) 21:02, October 5, 2009 (UTC)

Support - As long as their 50 edits aren't mainly jibberish/vandalism, or something as say user page updates, this seems completely fair to new users. Zaros symbolChaos Monk Talk SignCoins 250 23:22, October 6, 2009 (UTC)

As I said, User:, User talk: and RS:SB edits don't count. Ancient talisman Oil4 Talk 08:35, October 7, 2009 (UTC)

Comment - We have only just begun to establish a very solid quality User of the Month. Please refer to this discussion where we achieved a consensus to issue the 50 edits in the first place. Read the comments and the reasons behind this proposal then, and if you feel we still need to change it, then do it. I don't like the idea. User talk pages does not define a user "community aware".

Can you clarify these two...? You say user talk pages should count towards the 50 edits, but above you also say they don't.... 01:27, October 12, 2009 (UTC)
Sorry, I meant "all edits, except User:, User talk: and Sandbox edits". Just like with the AotMs. Ancient talisman Oil4 Talk 05:42, October 12, 2009 (UTC)

Closed - Voters are now required to have a minimum of 50 edits excluding edits from userpages, user talkpages, and the Sandbox. C.ChiamTalk 07:18, October 15, 2009 (UTC)
