"Wednesday, we will be launching two new features: Wiki Blogs and the User Masthead Wiki blogs are a new way for you and your community to contribute to your wiki. Wiki blogs are similar to normal blogs in that posts are attributed to a single author, are time stamped, and have a comment section. The wiki twist is that all posts are combined together into a central community blog or multiple blogs defined by category. Blog posts and comments are recorded in the Blog namespace and are logged in Recent Changes. User Masthead is new section appended to the top every user page which displays user specific links including link to the new User Blog. This masthead also has a place for each user to have their own avatar. Avatars can be added/changed in Special:Preferences and can be managed like any other image on the site. Check out all the details here!"
I went on Central and found this:
We realize that some communities may not be ready for these new features, so if you would prefer that we not enable blog articles on your wiki, please let us know here.
I'm suggesting that we ask Wikia not to enable any of this per this and some of the stuff mentioned here.
'Nuff said. Andrew talk 02:30, 30 June 2009 (UTC)
Support - per the basically 5-paragraph essay I wrote in those two forums. Christine 02:32, 30 June 2009 (UTC)
Support - Per Christine. We do not want to be split up on our community, and any of the other probelsm that the others have faced that have done this before. ~MuzTalk 02:44, 30 June 2009 (UTC)
Support - Per Christine. And the last thing we need is more Recent Changes traffic. - TehKittyCat (talk) 02:49, 30 June 2009 (UTC)
Support - Per Christine. Best we still avoid that chaotic disaster. Much more peaceful and simpler, that way. Though most of us don't really care for most of them, those other wikis are just going to fall apart... --— Enigma 03:12, 30 June 2009 (UTC)
Support - As a community, we just plain don't want the features. Per the previous discussions. Chiafriend12I have 12 friends. 03:18, 30 June 2009 (UTC)
Support - Reading the previous discussions pretty much convinced me that the features would be a bad idea. C.ChiamTalk 06:21, 30 June 2009 (UTC)
Closed - I'll go ahead and do it now then. Andrew talk 15:40, 30 June 2009 (UTC)
Re-opening - (Sorry Soldier) You may or may not have noticed, wikia has installed the blog feature on the wiki anyway. So, I'm reopening this for discussion on what to do etc. (If there's any problems with reopening this then a new thread can be made.) @Gaz#7521 14:14, 1 July 2009 (UTC)
Oppose - It could be good. We just need a special recent changes feature that hides blog posts. Could someone work on that? http://img268.imageshack.us/img268/3921/thehimmemote.pngGone. 14:17, 1 July 2009 (UTC)
Comment - Most likely Wikia is disabling them on the list right now. I'd wait like an hour or so, just to give Wikia some time to get them off. ~MuzTalk 14:17, 1 July 2009 (UTC)
Support - I posted a blog just for the heck of it, but.... yes, we don't need the wiki to become a Facebook. We don't want these. Tien 14:18, 1 July 2009 (UTC)
- What harm could they do? http://img268.imageshack.us/img268/3921/thehimmemote.pngGone. 14:20, 1 July 2009 (UTC)
- Have you read the previous discussions? C.ChiamTalk 14:22, 1 July 2009 (UTC)
- I read the second, and it appears that they're talking about several different features (Gifts? Friends? Levels?) rather than just the blogs. http://img268.imageshack.us/img268/3921/thehimmemote.pngGone. 14:36, 1 July 2009 (UTC)
- Have you read the previous discussions? C.ChiamTalk 14:22, 1 July 2009 (UTC)
Support - They're difficult to get to by default, and completely pointless. Hell, even LiveJournal has more features, and it's free... WWTDD? 14:19, 1 July 2009 (UTC)
Support -Per pervious discussions. We don't need a bunch of whining and complaining how much life sucks. Doucher4000******r4000 14:20, 1 July 2009 (UTC)
Support - Less recent changes traffic and this an encyclopedia about RuneScape, I don't see why we need blogs and stuff here. We can always just put it on our userpage. Powers38 おはようヾ(´・ω・`) 14:25, 1 July 2009 (UTC)
Pissed Off - per the fact that I clearly signed that page saying we didn't want these features and we still got them. Andrew talk 14:36, 1 July 2009 (UTC)
Comment - Is there any way to keep the avatars without the blogs? http://img268.imageshack.us/img268/3921/thehimmemote.pngGone. 14:41, 1 July 2009 (UTC)
- Don't count on it. This better be fixed because avatars render our personal image policy useless and this site is not a freaking social network. Andrew talk 14:42, 1 July 2009 (UTC)
- Okay, okay. Calm down. o_O http://img268.imageshack.us/img268/3921/thehimmemote.pngGone. 14:43, 1 July 2009 (UTC)
- Just a thought, why can't we upload personal images? Is it cause it causes useless data to be stored here? Powers38 おはようヾ(´・ω・`) 14:46, 1 July 2009 (UTC)

- I know this discussion is technically closed, but I want to clear up the rumours about personal images. Although, yes, personal images do waste a lot of space, our main concern when creating that policy was the inability to monitor all of those images being uploaded. We were not able to group them in one place, we were not able to easily differentiate between personal and article images, and at some point there were just so many images being uploaded that it was hard to monitor all of them. The avatars, incidentally, have their own separate namespace kind of thing, as in, we would know what is an avatar and what is not. However, it does still fall under the "no personal images" policy, and we are still not a social networking site. I would like to make it clear that the main reason for disallowing personal images was because it was too hard to monitor every single upload and weed out inappropriate content that may have been added. Additionally, as mentioned in both of the links above, personal images are not in the spirit of the wiki. Even now, we have people who focus only on their userpage rather than editing articles. I would like to hope that forcing them to use photobucket or imageshack at least somewhat discourages this behaviour and encourages them to use the wiki as more than a vanity page - use myspace or facebook for that. Happy - per this:
09:46 Soldier_1033: Hey Sannse, could I ask a quick question
09:47 sannse: sure
09:47 Soldier_1033: The RuneScape Wiki signed saying we didn't want the blogs or other features but we were still given them
09:47 Soldier_1033: So I was wondering if we could get them turned off
09:47 sannse: OK, let me check...
09:49 sannse: humm.. strange... I've pinged the techs, maybe a typo
09:49 Soldier_1033: Ok
09:49 Soldier_1033: Thanks
