I'll keep this short and simple in light of my previous...text wall. We chose 5 checkusers, some new, some old, in early January of this year. As it turns out, not all of them are exactly using their tools. I have spoken with Karlis, and Cook Me Plox has spoken with Iiii_I_I_I about the reassignment of the tools. They have both said they would be fine with a reassignment of the tools. Calebchiam has not responded to any inquiries, so I'm going to assume that he's fine with it. He has not used the tools in the last 12 months, and he is not active on the wiki, so I don't see a reason for him to possess them. I have contacted Wikia about it, so all we really have to do is go through the following process:
- Acknowledge that we are okay with reassigning the tools to users who will actually use them.
- If (1) passes, then decided which users will receive the tools. Remember that we do not need to pick exactly 3 to replace them. There is some leeway so if only 2 are agreed upon, it's still fine.

Note - I don't think that Cook and Gaz need to go through the selection process again since they have both been actively making good use of the tool either through their own efforts or by the requests of others. Where is the log We decided last time that the checkusers would need to keep a log so we could all see anytime who had used the tool on what IP. I thought we did anyhow, but I can't find a log that is accessible to normal users.--Degenret01 10:42, September 3, 2011 (UTC)

Support - They were reassigned so they could be accessible more often, so if the users with the tools aren't very active, then they should be given to other people. Just makes sense.

Comment - I still don't think assigning this tool is necessary, per what I have said in previous discussions on this issue. The log linked to shows the checkuser tool being used by local editors about once per month on average, assuming it is accurate (if it isn't, that would prove that the current checkusers are not trustworthy). This is not frequent enough to warrent assigning the tool. It seems as though we have to ask staff to assign the tools more often than we actually use it. Dtm142 21:02, September 5, 2011 (UTC)
- I would probably use it once a week if given the tools. The issue has risen with the release of [[Special:Chat]]. Within the past week 2 users (4 accounts) have been banned from the chat due to suspected (or proven by lack of proper trolling) sockpuppetry.

- I should also mention that I used a form of pseudo-check user almost every day through the use of the abuse log. However, as Wikia has removed this feature, this is no longer possible. Suppa chuppa Talk 23:30, September 5, 2011 (UTC)

Support - Don't have much to say on this matter. However, since most of those checks appear to be from the VSTF, I am unsure how reliable a tool this is when our own user base doesn't use it as much. Sure, this is a sparsely used right and within reason, but as per what Ajr stated that active checkusers are better than absent users. Ryan PM 07:05, September 6, 2011 (UTC)
