Sounds good. I also hate it when people spam the chat whenever they gain a level. A simple "Yay 80 Mining" is good enough. {{Signatures/Tienjt0}} 15:39, 28 April 2009 (UTC)

Be careful. What you've got on this page are some very definite rules. Hard rules are not conducive to running a clan chat smoothly; not only does it mean ranks feel restricted by them, people will also use them as justification to be assholes by breaking the spirit of the rule if not the letter of the rule (This is all covered in WP:IAR, I'm sure). Ideally, someone needs to reword the rules to make them more guideline-ish. JalYt-Xil-Vimescarrot 10:39, 20 April 2009 (UTC)

WP:GAME covers much of what I'm thinking. I can think of a few regulars who do this. JalYt-Xil-Vimescarrot 10:40, 20 April 2009 (UTC)

Mmm, I see what you mean. I'd favour a rewording from "rules" to "guidelines (to be taken with a pinch of salt)", and changes to the rules themselves where necessary. Weird gloop.png @Gaz#7521 22:37, 20 April 2009 (UTC)

New rules

The rules as they are now are all well and good in principle, but are lacking something in practice. I suggest a rewrite. So I'm going to rewrite them. Tell me what you think:

  • All users must follow Jagex’s 13 Rules, as usual. However, we might have to “tweak” rule 11 – Obviously, we will have to mention, refer to, tell people to look, etc., the Wiki many times. Justifying this by saying it's not "advertising" is useless - Jagex won't agree when we get reported, and our opinion is irrelevant on that.
  • Don't be a dick. Don't start arguments for no reason. Don't spam. Don't be deliberately disruptive. This rule is kept deliberately vague, as most people know when they aren't being productive. However, there are some examples which are not necessarily so obvious to everyone.
    • Don't sing. We aren't on the same emotional level, and what's more, we can't hear it. So it won't affect us in the same way, and will achieve nothing other than annoying people for being disruptive.
    • Don't levelup-spam. We may want to know you get 99 Fishing, but not if you tell us with seven lines of zeros. "Woot!" Is just as good as "w000000000000000000000000000000000000t".
    • Comment on other people's opinions, by all means, but don't argue, and don't insult. Opinions are opinions, and by definition, can't be wrong. It's generally best to keep religious, political and other controversial material to private chat. You may be able to hold a mature conversation about them, but there's no guarantee everyone else can.
    • Don't give anyone special treatment. This applies to ranks and non-ranks alike. Ranks aren't gods; non-ranks aren't peons. We're all equal.

When these rules are broken, there are not necessarily any hard and fast rules on how to deal with them. If you're being disruptive, you will probably get a warning or two, then be kicked. But ranks are ranked because their judgement is deemed trsutworthy enough to know when to kick and when to give second chances. Don't just tell them we can't kick you without a warning. They may be justified in kicking you for that, as it's a prime example of having the wrong attitude. Just use your head and make it a fun place to be!

I fully and totally agree with this. I see a lot of these examples of spam, disruptiveness, and other things that is happening in the CC. I feel like this rewrite could help better the current principles and rules that we have and will help overall keep the rule-breaking to a near minimum. I think the rules above are a good template. in a nutshell: do act like a moron, and you will not be kicked. ‎File:Easter egg.PNGAtlandy 20:26, 27 April 2009 (UTC)
Agreed. Rollback crown.svg Spencer (Talk | Edits | Contribs) 20:28, 27 April 2009 (UTC)
Assuming there are no disagreements, I'll replace the old rules with the new ones when I wake up tomorrow. If someone does object after I've changed them, we can revert it while we discuss exactly why. JalYt-Xil-Vimescarrot 20:30, 27 April 2009 (UTC)

I totaly agree with new rules but still there needs to be a warning before any kick. -- Defence Waterkunai1 Talk # fluffy bunniesArmadyl symbol.png 20:43, 27 April 2009 (UTC)

Even to someone who comes in every hour, on the hour, just to spam? JalYt-Xil-Vimescarrot 20:44, 27 April 2009 (UTC)
True. I think they should get 1-2 warnings the first time they break a rule, then if they are kicked and they come back afterwards, they can be kicked without warning if they continue to break rules. Rollback crown.svg Spencer (Talk | Edits | Contribs) 20:46, 27 April 2009 (UTC)
There are many extenuating circumstances for both sides - kicking instantly, and giving warnings. I think these are all obvious enough in themselves to rely on a ranks' judgement; they're trusted to be ranked for that reason, right? JalYt-Xil-Vimescarrot 20:47, 27 April 2009 (UTC)

right! but it has to be an obius spammer not just any person. PS:can we archive this im lagging. -- Defence Waterkunai1 Talk # fluffy bunniesArmadyl symbol.png 20:50, 27 April 2009 (UTC)

I agree with these rules, especially the singing, it can be quite irritating at times ;-). File:Karil's crossbow.PNG Xi_Karilz_Ix File:Fire cape.PNG 20:54, 27 April 2009 (UTC)

The rules are the main page are fine. The ones on this page should be guidelines and not hard and fast rules. I see a lot of personal preferences in these (on the talk page). While we are all equal, we are not all alike. Six To Go!Hatchenator TalkContribsGreat Transportation 21:07, 27 April 2009 (UTC)

Could you be more specific? JalYt-Xil-Vimescarrot 21:12, 27 April 2009 (UTC)
"Don't Sing/Don't Announce Level Up", you may as well say, don't talk about your day or don't say what slayer assignment you have. The Chat Channel is a communication forum for everyone. Just because you choose not to enjoy some conversations, doesn't mean they should be restricted. The Chat Channel should be a place where we get to know each other better, which can only ease the interactions on the wiki arena. I have left chat several times because I didn't care for the conversation, which is always a choice available. Six To Go!Hatchenator TalkContribsGreat Transportation 21:28, 27 April 2009 (UTC)
Never gonna give you up
Never gonna let you down
Never gonna tell a lie
And desert you
This isn't a conversation. Equally,
is nothing more than spam. I didn't say "Don't announce level up"; in fact, I encouraged "woot". If you *discuss* the 99, fine. "That's a relief! Took ages!" or whatever. I'd encourage it. It's better than the alternative. Mindless wooping does not a conversation make. JalYt-Xil-Vimescarrot 00:24, 28 April 2009 (UTC)

I'm fine with all of them except the "level up/spamming" one. If someone gets a partyhat from the partyroom, I don't care if they spam a few lines. Just as it doesn't go on for ages. I believe the CC should be one of the less serious sides of the Wiki, everything is so serious it seems. It makes me depressed in a way. The clan chat should be there to vent some of those emotions. I like saying fluffy bunnies cause it makes me happy. =) Prayer.png Jedi Talk HS Log Tracker Summoning.png 00:40, 28 April 2009 (UTC)

Yes, I'm fine with all of them the level up/spamming one. Reasons per jedi, except the fluffy bunnies. o.O Santa hat.png Powers38 おはようヾ(´・ω・`) 00:45, 28 April 2009 (UTC)

Per Jedi :-). File:Karil's crossbow.PNG Xi_Karilz_Ix File:Fire cape.PNG 02:25, 28 April 2009 (UTC)

I do hate levelup spam. But since they're only guidelines anyway, we could theoretically remove the whole thing and it shouldn't make a difference. So we're okay with it if I remove the levelup spam section? I'll do it tonight if no-one objects... JalYt-Xil-Vimescarrot 09:50, 28 April 2009 (UTC)
Per Jedi. I like that you note in the end it is up to ranked members of the CC to monitor the chat. Many kicks are judgment calls, and so we depend on the ranked members to be fair and responsible. Horsehead Talk 14:05, 28 April 2009 (UTC)
