Add your name here RuneScape:Wikian hiscores to get added.

Hello my fellow Wikians! Smile I know that we are not a PKing/Skilling/Merch clan, etc. We are just a group of volunteers editing our own fansite. That's why I'm proposing this idea: What about creating our own hiscores? It could be hosted on RuneHead and contain the RuneScape usernames of the editors of the Wiki (of course, only if they wanted). Now tell me, what do you guys think about it? Oppose - We already have Jscript/Quarenon/Az's program-sources for maintaining an up-to-date and active highscore. I don't see the personal appeal, when in fact one could just maneuver theirselves to the official home page and check the hi-scores for themselves...Besides, I don't see what's the point in this proposal? You didn't manage to explain clearly enough the intent behind the high-scores, would it be a high-scores for edits, signatures, votes, etc? What would be the purpose and nature behind it. And you already stated that most of us here do not belong to PKing/Merchanting clans, so why contradict yourself even further? Fruit.Smoothie 02:42, January 7, 2010 (UTC)

  • It would be to compare the Hi-Scores of the site, and get average levels and skills of the community etc.

Comment - I don't know why I'm wasting energy explaining this to you Fruit, I know that we aren't a Merch/PK, etc clan, but we are a community. Don't you think that we deserve our own hiscores? Instead of the "IDUNNOWHAT" Jscript/Quarenon/Az's program-sources for maintaining an up-to-date and active highscore. This is for other fansites to see that WE PLAY RUNESCAPE TOO, not only just edit articles. If you get what I mean. Gragon 126 Talk 16:32, January 7, 2010 (UTC)

Also, 24 uses of {{ParseHiscoreData}} per person (29 including minigames) is rather server-intensive, especially if we have a large list of users on one page. We'd have to make some more templates to reduce load and/or use javascript/whatever - or we can just use runehead and not put more strain on wikia's already slow servers. It's nowhere near as hard as you probably think it is. The way the creation and upkeep of users' highscores on RuneHead are designed makes it so easy a Larupia who knew how to read and use a keyboard could do it. All you do is pick a color scheme, enter some information about your homeworld and the like, enter usernames, name some ranks and assign ranks to the usernames you've entered and you have a fully functioning RuneHead highscore list.
I've been using RuneHead for something around two years now, so I would be open to run it. Dragon helmChiafriend12Granite body (old)I have 12 friends. 10:14, January 10, 2010 (UTC)

But why would you want to exclude those people? Ancient talisman Oil4 Talk 11:35, January 11, 2010 (UTC)
This is a community hiscores. We want people who are established in the community. Not users who sign up for the sake of requesting their name in the hiscores. We might have hundreds and hundreds of users that have never even edited the wiki. Chicken7 >talk 11:52, January 11, 2010 (UTC)
Precicely, this is not a highscores of every registered member. This is a hiscores of the active people on the wiki. Without limits I fear it will be full of names of people who dont even visit here often just so they can be on the list. --Gold ore Mercifull UK serv (Talk) 12:47, January 11, 2010 (UTC)
I think only people who are active in the community anyway will even think about going there, so would it really be such a great problem? Ancient talisman Oil4 Talk 13:16, January 11, 2010 (UTC)
Yes, because the active people who do go there want to see the other active people who go there, not the 1 edit users who signed up just to be put on the list. Chicken7 >talk 13:21, January 11, 2010 (UTC)
Wouldn't RS:AEAE apply here ? Although I understand your reasoning, I don't see how the number of edits makes someone more a part of the community. Would a quiet editor who didn't take part in discussion and had 1000 edits not be LESS a part of the community than an editor who contributes to discussions and has only a hundred or so edits ? Veritas vos Liberabit 13:37, January 11, 2010 (UTC)
Actually, AEAE is about authority, this is nothing to do with that. C.ChiamTalk 13:38, January 11, 2010 (UTC)
We're all equal, therefore being members of the wiki community we all have an equal right to be a part of the community highscores ? Veritas vos Liberabit 13:41, January 11, 2010 (UTC)
Don't take it way too literally. The policy was put in place to prevent things like "I am an administrator so you have to listen what I say." from happening. However, there is no person on this wiki that has more authority than another, no matter what, because all editors are equal. C.ChiamTalk 13:44, January 11, 2010 (UTC)
The highscores would be hosted remotely (aka not on the wiki) and thus would not be bound by RS:AEAE --Gold ore Mercifull UK serv (Talk) 13:51, January 11, 2010 (UTC)
However both the Community clan chat and the IRC channel, both of which are remotely hosted are bound by all Runescape Wiki rules. So how would RS:AEAE not apply if the hiscores were hosted offsite ? Veritas vos Liberabit 14:02, January 11, 2010 (UTC)
But people who aren't active in the community wouldn't even know that it exists, so they wouldn't go there. Ancient talisman Oil4 Talk 17:13, January 11, 2010 (UTC)

Comment and Support 50 (non-user/user talk/sandbox) edits - As much as AEAE may apply, as this is wiki-related (even if it is offsite), we'd just have hundreds of people who sign up simply to be on the hiscores list, and not improve the wiki; they won't be a member of the community. I'd much prefer to use a similar method to RS:AOTM, RS:UOTM, etc, which is users with 50 edits to any namespace except user, user talk and to RS:SAND (the 50 edits can also be posts on the forums). Maybe we could extend that here to users well-known (subjective but hey) in the clan chat, as some users are often very involved in conversations but only read the wiki and/or don't have an account, and it would be a shame to exclude such members of our community. Weird gloop @Gaz#7521 18:44, January 11, 2010 (UTC)

I agree about the well-known users of the cc, but how we would work out which users, I do not know. Some people might feel left out. Cheers, Chicken7 >talk 23:37, January 11, 2010 (UTC)

Okay, but since I appear to be one of the few people who know how RuneHead works, there are some things that should be brought to general attention.:*The ranks are always referred to as ranks, so we'll need to decide whether we either list everyone as a community member per RS:AEAE or utilize the feature and just deal with whatever slight confusion that may happen. If multiple ranks are decided to be used, what would we want? Just 'community member' and ', or something more descriptive? A hierarchy containing the ranks of 'community member', 'rollback', 'Clan Chat moderator' (if that is the correct title), 'sysop' and 'bureaucrat' would be an alternative.:*Ranks also have the option of having colors affiliated with them. I'd use the hilite colors, with the exception of rollback, where I may just use the crown color (which may change with the crown discussion going on).
  • On the top, unless a banner is provided, it simply displays the name of the usergroup. Would we want a banner? I really doubt the logo or the widened logo alternative would look good. Usually something around 1,000 pixels wide fits.
  • I'll insert that our main world is either 28 or 29. Any preferences? I believe only one can be chosen.
  • If it applies, I will say we're both F2P and P2P-open.
  • For the link to our website, if that applies as well, I will put a link to our main page.
  • I don't remember if the background color can be changed. If not, it's the standard black. I'll just leave the color scheme as default for now.
  • If the creation process works as I remember it, it requires manual approval from one of their administrator/webmasters, so it may be a few days before I can actually do anything with the list. Dragon helmChiafriend12Granite body (old)I have 12 friends. 06:39, January 13, 2010 (UTC)

Oh, right, this is something to consider as a community. What should the account name be? Whatever the account is titled as is reflected in the URL, and I was honestly considering to have it be random letters and numbers to have it be a secure account, heh heh. What would we want?

  • RSW?
  • RSWiki?
  • RuneScape Wiki?
  • RuneScapeWiki?
  • RSWikilist?
  • RSWlist?
  • Any other ideas?

I'll delay my actual creation of the account for a day or two so that some discussion can be done and whatnot. Dragon helmChiafriend12Granite body (old)I have 12 friends. 06:45, January 13, 2010 (UTC)

Question Are ranks changeable later? Hmmm, the more I think about it, the more I like having no ranks. Unlike the CC and here, we don't need ranks to kick or block. I can't think of a legitimate reason to have any. There might be some I can't think of, but until that is pointed out, I say no ranks.--Degenret01 07:01, January 13, 2010 (UTC)

Comment about ranks - In my honest opinion, I think we should do the ranks as 2 groups: "sysops" and "regular users". Sysops, 'crats, and I don't think it makes a difference, but staff and helpers too are in "Sysops". Autoconfirmeds and rollbacks are in the "regular users" group. Why have ranks, you may ask? Because users may wish to search up specific users by usergroup. They may want to see who the top sysop is, or who ranks best in the regular users, etc. I wouldn't oppose putting each and every rank, either. Chicken7 >talk 13:25, January 13, 2010 (UTC)

Comment about name - I don't know completely, but if it is going to be in the URL, I don't believe we'd be allowed spaces. If that is correct, RSWikia works for me. If not, RSWikia works for me again ^ ^ BUT, if this "account name" is what appears as our big title at the top, name it RuneScapeWikia. Cheers, Chicken7 >talk 13:25, January 13, 2010 (UTC)

Runescape Wiki - Per Oli. Swiz Talk Review Me 18:46, January 13, 2010 (UTC)

RuneScape Wiki or RSWiki - As far as I'm aware, the name is not limited like the in-game clan chat is, so no reason not to use the full name. Various other things: probably don't need ranks, per Degen; a banner would be nice, I'm sure some of our great image-editors could make something awesome for us; if only one world, I'd use 28, since we more often have a lot more users in 28 than 29, but there are alternative arguments for 29 (if we can write a blurb you could list the other world there); if the colour scheme is changeable, we should be able to change it later, so default for now sounds alright. Weird gloop @Gaz#7521 19:12, January 13, 2010 (UTC)

For the banner, I'd say keep it simple, nothing too showy like tip.it's, Well, that's only my opinion. Swiz Talk Review Me 19:43, January 13, 2010 (UTC)
Yeah. Some like our current logo, stretched out to 1000px, with larger writing and more runes around the sides (combination, elemental, catalytic and repeating what's already there), just off the top of my head. The truer we can stay to the actual wiki logo the better, IMO, unless something hugely awesome is made. Weird gloop @Gaz#7521 21:23, January 13, 2010 (UTC)
Define "hugely awesome". What would you classify any of these as? I, personally, would be able to create a banner that would look nice, show that we are a RuneScape fansite/encyclopedia and we have a community to back it up. To people who are interested in joining or people who just want to learn about our community, it would make it look far more appealing than just a modified logo with runes scattered around. Dragon helmChiafriend12Granite body (old)I have 12 friends. 00:11, January 14, 2010 (UTC)

Comment - We should also include a request for acceptance into the community hiscores. Though I also agree that we can use it to attract new wikians (however few people who aren't already wikians look at our hiscores...), but I think it would be hard to put those two things together.

If someone can find a suitable picture to go on the right hand side then i'm happy to make another copy of the banner idea. --Gold ore Mercifull UK serv (Talk) 15:06, January 18, 2010 (UTC)
Did you want another picture of the Red Dragon? Because I've been doing some messing about on piant and came up with another banner =/ Swiz Talk Review Me 17:01, January 18, 2010 (UTC)

1000 (total) edits - It should be bigger.Youdead00 21:30, January 18, 2010 (UTC)

A thousand? Isn't that a bit over-the-top? Ancient talisman Oil4 Talk 21:31, January 18, 2010 (UTC)
We only have ~180 users with over 1,000 total edits (Special:ListUsers), and not all of them are active in the community (anymore), have been banned, no longer play or are second accounts... some of our highly active community members don't have 1,000 edits. That would be unfair on them - 1,000 is far too many. Weird gloop @Gaz#7521 21:46, January 18, 2010 (UTC)
Actually, interestingly enough, Youdead00 has a total of 394 edits that are non-user [talk]. Hello71 02:22, January 19, 2010 (UTC)
I think he meant total edits not mainspace edits. Gragon 126 Talk 06:51, January 19, 2010 (UTC)
Yeaah, 1k seems far too much, 50 mainspace seems fair as you can vote on UoTM etc once you've got 50 aswell. Swiz Talk Review Me 16:31, January 19, 2010 (UTC)

Comment - So much discussion is killing this thread... Lets make this highcores already Gragon 126 Talk 17:16, January 22, 2010 (UTC)

I agree, the same thing is happening on the Crowns thread too. Maybe we should get more sign-ups before we actually create the page though? Swiz Talk Review Me 18:01, January 22, 2010 (UTC)

Comment - Swiz, take a look at the signup. there are quite a few signatures there. But we should get around to making them!--Cheers, Off-hand Ascension crossbowYodaAscension crossbow 16:00, January 23, 2010 (UTC)

Comment Number one, discussion can indeed drag things out for too long but that isn't happening here. You have to make sure you get things done right so it doesn't come back and bite you in the a**. Number two, Chia has submitted us and is waiting to be confirmed. So settle down lol.--Degenret01 23:55, January 23, 2010 (UTC)

I submitted it about a week ago. After "24-48 hours" I was supposed to receive another email with the password to the account saying that it has been validated. It's been far longer than two days, and I have yet to receive it. Dragon helmChiafriend12Granite body (old)I have 12 friends. 01:08, January 24, 2010 (UTC)
Lol you can never trust the "expected" amount of time. I'll just say it now, when it does come and this discussion closes (as the point of it was to make the hiscores, not organise them), make a subpage of RS:OS like what was done for Facebook and use that for discussion. Also update the actual project page with a section about the hiscores. Cool Smile Chicken7 >talk 12:26, January 24, 2010 (UTC)
Apply again. When I signed up I got the password in a few hours. --Gold ore Mercifull UK serv (Talk) 21:27, January 24, 2010 (UTC)

Has this been created yet? Things seem to take a ridiculous length of time to get sorted here even when concensus is clear. It takes all of 10 minutes to setup a Runehead highscores list. I'm tempted to do it myself RS:BB --Gold ore Mercifull UK serv (Talk) 09:11, January 28, 2010 (UTC)

Support creation using Mercifull's banner, 100 "constructive" edits and with "RuneScape Wiki" as the title - Per all above. ~ Fire Surge icon Sentry Telos Talk  09:25, January 28, 2010 (UTC)

I think they have a username limit of twelve characters. I tried "RuneScape Wiki" and it didn't fit, so I used "rswiki". Dragon helmChiafriend12Granite body (old)I have 12 friends. 23:33, January 29, 2010 (UTC)
3 more days pass.... no hiscores yet. What's the delay? --Gold ore Mercifull UK serv (Talk) 09:14, February 1, 2010 (UTC)
Another 3 days pass. I will be creating the hiscores myself on saturday (if its not done by then) RS:BB. --Gold ore Mercifull UK serv (Talk) 10:00, February 3, 2010 (UTC)

Nothing can be done if their administrators don't validate the application I entered, which they have not done. Until they do so, no list can be made. That's the delay. Dragon helmChiafriend12Granite body (old)I have 12 friends. 16:52, February 3, 2010 (UTC)

RuneScape Wiki Highscores online

RS:BB, got tired of waiting. Scores set up at link above. Wootage at rank #2 :D

Several of the names on the list didn't show up in ANY hiscores. Perhaps they have changed their names since posting at RuneScape:Wikian hiscores? --Gold ore Mercifull UK serv (Talk) 12:28, February 4, 2010 (UTC)

Comment - Looks nice. However, is there a picture for the community like Mercifull linked earlier (as I am on the iPhone and don't see one) or there isn't/won't be one? As well, I am not familiar with RuneHead, why can't it say 99 Agility instead of 99 Firemaking? If it justs lists by the first one it notices based on HS Lite, then that's fine. If it's arbitrary then it would be nice to see the former. Anyways, it's nice to have up and running. Ryan PM 17:11, February 4, 2010 (UTC)

Are you talking about the highest skill? It goes by exp. --Gold ore Mercifull UK serv (Talk) 22:10, February 4, 2010 (UTC)
I saw what it went by about 2 hours after I asked, the EDGE Network on an iPhone makes it hard to quickly change sites/pages while at school. As well, I like your mesh at here, Mercifull. It would add a bit of (shall I say flavour?) colour to the list. Ryan PM 22:37, February 4, 2010 (UTC)

Comment - Where's the banner? If there isn't one, how is this?. Also I think they show the first 99 that you've got. Swiz Talk Review Me 18:15, February 4, 2010 (UTC)

The banner has to be approved. I chose the one i'd created earlier. I am waiting for this to happen. --Gold ore Mercifull UK serv (Talk) 22:09, February 4, 2010 (UTC)

Comment - Ranked by combat level? Concerndout  Tien  22:11, February 4, 2010 (UTC)

Only on the main memberslist page (this is how all Runehead lists work). If you chose a skill from the drop down it will rank them by that instead http://www.runehead.com/clans/ml.php?clan=rs_wiki&skill=Summoning --Gold ore Mercifull UK serv (Talk) 22:28, February 4, 2010 (UTC)
Oh, I see. Also, I'm wondering if the order of unranked people signifies anything. For example, only two people are ranked in Mobilising Armies. Does the person immediately under them (who is not ranked) have a higher score than those below him?  Tien  22:44, February 4, 2010 (UTC)
I think its just alphabetical --Gold ore Mercifull UK serv (Talk) 22:48, February 4, 2010 (UTC)

Comment - Yay! Finally up! Prayer Jedi Talk HS Log Tracker Summoning 00:22, February 5, 2010 (UTC)

No it's up I need to hand this over to a 'crat or two. The login is independant of a username or email address so more than one person can have access. My private is always on so you will need to post on my talk page so I can add you. --Gold ore Mercifull UK serv (Talk) 09:37, February 5, 2010 (UTC)

I am still waiting to hand this over to a 'crat. Please get in touch. --Gold ore Mercifull UK serv (Talk) 09:13, February 22, 2010 (UTC)

Comment - I'm sure you could look after it yourself? I'd trust you. Also when will the banner and highlights for each user come up (Admin, 'crat. etc.)? Swiz Talk Review Me 16:13, February 22, 2010 (UTC)

A crat or sysop should at least be in some control over it. scoot4.pngscooties 22:11, February 22, 2010 (UTC)
