This is a long overdue project. Custodians have been somewhat of a mystery to the average user in this wiki's history. In fact, around early 2010, virtually nobody on this wiki even knew what a custodian was. Hopefully, through discussion within this project, other uses can gain a deeper understanding of what it really means to be a custodian.

Any user is able to, and even recommended, to participate in this project. Don't be discouraged just because you're a skeptic, sardonic or not. The discussion is split into several sections, with a different user leading each section. Suppa chuppa ^Talk 07:51, October 11, 2014 (UTC)

In Azaz's project each moderator wrote an opening piece for the section which the community discussed and improved. I can't help but notice this lacks that and thus seems unlikely to achieve anything. User:Cqm/Signature

I think for the average user it would be useful to explain that moving images is the way that we rename them and to include some explanation of how this causes links to images to stop working (creating redlinks) and that we have to change the links to use the new filename before they can work again :) IsobelJ 08:05, October 11, 2014 (UTC)

There's some overlap between this and suppressing redirects. There used to be a myth that file redirects didn't work, but we do it now for some tradeable items on exchange pages with no issues other than causing some sort of false positive if looking up WantedFiles through the API. One thing that custodians need to realize is that, once you become an administrator, you are no longer obligated to slave away at menial wiki tasks. Such tasks are left for the normal editors who are not adorned with administrative honors. The problem with custodians is that they do not know their place on the hierarchy wiki tree - custodians are nothing more than normal editors. Therefore, it is a custodian's job to do all that they can possibly do with their custodian tools before consulting an administrator. Custodians must fully utilize their image move tools and page edit tools to move the image and fix the red links before appearing before the almighty administrators.
