How do things become templates? I mean so you don't have to do this: (I'm using one of my userbox things as an example, look at the edit page if you don't know what I'm talking about.)

Make a template page. Template:User loves templates, for example. Follow that link and put that stuff (the template) into the page. Save. From then on you can simply put {{User lovers templates}} and you will get whatever is in the template page. N K S 10:59, 4 January 2007 (UTC)
My personal method is to make a subpage for the template that i want to create. So you create some page like [[User:Sacre Fi/User loves template]]. You can reference that as a normal template, although you need to include the appropriate namespace, e.g. {{User:Sacre Fi/User loves template}}. The usual template formatting applies here. If you think the template is of more general use, or if you use it outside your personal space it is advisable to move the template from your personal User namespace to the Template namespace, i.e. the [[Template:User loves templates]] example from the previous point. --Miw 12:09, 4 January 2007 (UTC)
Good point... Until recently, I never knew you could use a template without putting it in template space, though wikipedia have also compromised now on putting "frivolous" userbox templates in user space. The template space is just convenient for those that are used often. Ace of Risk 18:27, 4 January 2007 (UTC)
