As mostly automated IRC bots increase their workloads in the #wikia-runescape channel, decisions need to be made on how they can be used. Currently, every bot operator and user has basically free rein to use the bots functions whenever, however and as often as they like. This can lead to problems, especially spamming. While, there are currently no problems, some could creep up in the future, there is no proposal here, just an invitation for discussion. 222 talk 06:46, November 2, 2010 (UTC)

Comment - Spamming can be taken care of easily. Just send the bot private messages.

Comment - An idea I had was to have a separate bot channel, specially for when someone wants to go on a bot grind/spam. 222 talk 06:49, November 2, 2010 (UTC)

That's way to complicated as most of the time the bots are used for usefull things like linking to the wiki ect. Hunter cape (t) Sentra246Blue hallowe'en mask 07:33, November 2, 2010 (UTC)
Note the words "for when someone wants to go on a bot grind/spam". 222 talk 07:37, November 2, 2010 (UTC)

Comment - You can always just query the bot so that no one else sees the messages. That's much easier than a private bot channel. --LiquidTalk 13:07, November 2, 2010 (UTC)

Comment -Thebrains, I don't give out the bot admin to any one so:

Could I please have access to your IRC bot please, I've read the instructions and rules on your bot page. Thanks, {{Signatures/thebrains222}} 06:29, November 2, 2010 (UTC)

No Maybe --Farming cape (t) Ikin Talk 13:21, November 2, 2010 (UTC)

Comment - I have said about this in some proposal about Ikin's cropping bot. I think all bots with good intent should be allowed but the bot or its user may not communicate to each other more than 5 times in 10 seconds (this limit should be raised when there is active conversation) and the bot's announcement message (automatically send to channel without explicit command in our channel, like RuneScript's Global message or RuneScript's RSNEWS) may be send only 30 times per hour. willwill Talk 14:10, November 2, 2010 (UTC)

Having explicit limits in place for that sort of thing is unnecessarily bureaucratic- it will end up creating drama over "Ohhhh but his bot has posted 31 times in the last hour!" Bot operators, use common sense. If there is an active conversation in the channel, don't flood the channel with spam and disrupt everyone else. If it's pretty quiet, go for it. --Andorin (Talk) (Contribs) 21:23, November 7, 2010 (UTC)

Comment - I think we should have a sub-channel at something like #wikia-runescape-bots to let users run commands off of their/and others IRC bots. I asked User:Sannse if this was allowed, and she said their was no problem with it. :3 User:TyA/sig 02:30, November 3, 2010 (UTC)

Comment - This is kinda a stupid yew grove thread because you can just ask the user to do it in private
Now can we close this? --Farming cape (t) Ikin Talk 02:45, November 3, 2010 (UTC).

Comment - I deny access to anything TLULbot can do on-wiki except to users who I trust. I also have TLULbot include the ID of the requesting user in the edit summary. Other features (non-wiki) used by the bot are difficult to trigger accidentally, and I don't generally see them being used to a spammy extent (except perhaps the AI, but that's generally something I'd say should be taken up with the person spamming it). The other bots are much the same. If anything, RuneScript is the one being spammed with commands like @fml (prints out a random submission from http://fmylife.com). I'm a regular user and I approve this message.  TLUL Talk - Contribs 04:05, November 3, 2010 (UTC)

Comment - Just remember that my "idea" is not a proposal, just food for thought. I don't necessarily endorse it. 222 talk 07:08, November 3, 2010 (UTC)

Closed - If you want to spam the bot, do it in PM.
