This thread was archived on 13 May 2015 by TyA.

The meeting was held at 2PM UTC (14:00) on 28 April 2015. For the previous information of the thread, see the archive.

The attending parties to the meeting were Mod Matthe and Mod Balance on the behalf of Jagex and for the wiki there was Cook Me Plox, Gaz Lloyd, Spineweilder, TyA and myself, Ryan PM.

  • Jagex authenticated accounts
    • This appears to be done for at least a Community Manager for Block and Load yesterday.
    • The miscommunication to editing (Moltare) had been discussed and encouraging more editing from Jagex staff.
  • Better access to APIs and additional APIs
    • Needs more input from the web team at Jagex.
  • Databases
    • Requested access to an API that would list item names and examines for all items.
      • Might contain information that could stall such an API.
  • Pre-screening content to an extent
    • It would be needed to be done within a reasonable time frame and come with an NDA.
    • Not necessarily feasible every week and patches would not be something always given before release.
    • Treasure Hunter information would still be lock and key outside of the name of items and the images of them.
      • Some things would be better left alone until the day of the update so that misinformation or the lack of information does not cause issues across sites like Reddit and Twitter.
  • Skill Theory Probabilities
    • Potential for some of the oldest content like Woodcutting rates but not possible for upcoming or recent content.
    • Could make gaming less entertaining by knowing all the mechanics behind a piece of content.
  • Jagex Support
    • Jagex Ltd. has strong bonds with the executive team at Wikia Inc.
    • Be more open with Jagex in many aspects from the forums, to social media and email.
    • Community aspects and adding content from both developers and everyday readers.
  • Contacting fansites
    • The Jagex account for Skype will be logged in while Mod Matthe is in the office.
    • Jagex will support setting up (but not running) a cooperative environment with other fansites
      • Extend the affiliation that we once used to deal with.
    • Brought upon by the closure of the Jagex hosted wiki and we will work together in the future with other fansites.
  • Support for the 2007 OSRS Wiki
    • This is being looked into and Mod Balance will talk to Mod Mat K and Mod Ronan for the information and support they need.

Discussion

Comment - One thing I would like to clear is that we are still independent, but we wish to work with Jagex closer for the betterment of the wiki. Also, please no more horrible suggestions like titles... It is not something that should come up again. If I am missing any points, please add them. Finally, Spine is the summoner of oboes. Follow up - A lite API (or whatever you want to call it) could work fine. We've done fine with what we do now. I'm really more concerned about having good organization planned ahead of an update. I don't care if we get pages made with nothing more than a name, infobox, and a single sentence. It's extremely helpful to have a place to put the information even if we don't know what that information is. I just hate when we have unhelpful junk pages for new items that haven't had articles created yet. Literally nothing but a name would be extremely helpful, but we should try to get a bit more if we can. One solution would be we could have articles written ahead of time but not actually created until a time Jagex deems fit (perhaps when the newspost for the item is out).

Skill theory and other analytics I can understand not revealing. It probably would take some fun out of the game. We don't want to put Mr G W out of business! Some interaction with our theories might be nice though. Something like "you guys are spot on" or "nope, still missing a key component". In my opinion, validating our work like that might actually make such experiments and studies more engaging and fun.

I'm surprised titles were discussed. I much prefer "Crusader", it's pretty much the perfect title for me. Besides, there are several people who would probably qualify for whatever criteria is set for "the Wikian" that I simply would not want to have the title. MolMan 16:21, April 28, 2015 (UTC)

Comment - I listened to the audio yesterday morning (thanks whoever it was that posted it in the skype channel), but I don't recall hearing any mention of future meetings or even a way to follow up on our requests. Was there any mention of that in other mediums (email, skype, etc.)? User:Cqm/Signature

Their skype and email should always be open for us to contact them about whatever, so we can use that to talk to them as needed, and I assume in turn they'll do the same. I also assume requests for future meetings will come through one of those. Weird gloop @Gaz#7521 23:17, April 30, 2015 (UTC)
Isn't this issue the same as the "preferred way for communication" discussion a while ago? The Jmods said they preferred Twitter pm, IIRC. --User:Saftzie/Signature 21:05, May 1, 2015 (UTC)
That's for normal discussion with whatever jmods. We [the admins in the call] have a direct line to MattHe and Balance via skype and email if we want to contact them about stuff. Weird gloop @Gaz#7521 22:48, May 1, 2015 (UTC)
Sounds to me like a skype cabal. BAN Raglough (talk) 22:52, May 1, 2015 (UTC)

Comment - Cook mentioned something about potentially moving host to Jagex. Disregarding whatever stunt/backstab/thing Jagex pulls, how exactly would that foster relations with other fansites? Would RSW become akin to RuneZone in everyone hating on it? --Jlun2 (talk) 13:00, May 1, 2015 (UTC)

Unless you mean hosted by Wikia but with a Jagex DNS name, Wikia would still resurrect the wiki and turn it over to someone else if we moved, plus whatever bad fallout/consequences would befall us. --User:Saftzie/Signature 21:05, May 1, 2015 (UTC)
Right now, I can't see a time when we'd be in a strong enough position to move hosts (to jagex or elsewhere). There's so many potential issues on the surface, I'm doubtful we'll move anytime soon. User:Cqm/Signature

Closed - Discussion has died. User:TyA/sig 19:00, May 13, 2015 (UTC)
