This page is for logo submissions to replace our current logo. Feel free to conceptualize and use your imagination, it doesn't have to be similar to our current logo. At the end of the submission phase, the logos will be voted upon.

Rules

• Images must be saved in PNG, which can be done by changing the file type to PNG in the Save window.
• The maximum width is 250 pixels and the maximum height is by 65 pixels.
• Bear in mind that the default skin that most editors will see is the new oasis theme, a sample of which can be seen here.
• The deadline for submission was 00:00 UTC, January 10th, 2011. Please note that this includes resubmissions. You may not make changes to your submitted logo after this time.
• Creating an account before submitting is recommended, but not required.

How to submit

• Upload your logo to ImageShack or Photobucket. Please do not upload them to the Wiki, since only the winning logo may be hosted here.
• Paste the "Direct link" from ImageShack or Photobucket where it says "Direct link" in the next empty row.
• Where it says "Description", add a brief summary of your logo and why you think it should be chosen. If you did not make the logo from scratch, explain the origin and changes you have made
• Change "Sign here" to "~~~~", which will be converted into a signature and timestamp when you save the page.
• Save the page.
• If you wish to suggest a logo without actually creating it, please add it to the bottom of the page. Be sure to add ~~~~ to the end of your post.

• About the logo Mercifull/Jeffwang suggested: i think the w should be less Zamorak-symbol-ish, and indeed the full name should be shown instead of an abbreviation, but then it should not be so disformed. Comment - Personally, I like that 4 took off in a direction unique to the submissions, albeit inspired by TES4. Anyway, as they're copyrighted to Jagex, I'd argue that the images of runes, the logo, and the sword can't be legitimately used without written permission, which we've failed to acquire. Since most people don't care about that sort of thing, I'd appreciate it if we at least avoid something with the entire RuneScape logo in it, as in 5-ish, 6, 7, and 8, so that we can at least feign innocence... More submissions with original ideas would be awesome; maybe one won't be copyright infringement. Leftiness 11:00, January 1, 2011 (UTC)

Well since the current logo uses runes and we've had that for years it should be fine, but I agree using the RuneScape logo isn't a great idea. Sentra246 14:12, January 1, 2011 (UTC)

Cook already asked Jagex and they said it was fine to have Runescape images in the background and logo provided credit was given in a footer. -- Mercifull ^(Talk) 21:45, January 1, 2011 (UTC)

Comment - (Per Leftiness) Let us not forget to change MediaWiki:Oasis-spotlights-footer-title to, and this can be done now as we do use their imagery in the current logo:

The font size must be 10px to not interfere with Wikia's spotlights, lest we want confrontation with them. The above is a modified version of what I initially had seen Merciful attempt. The only other item that comes to mind is that if the submissions aren't up to par with the current logo, or rather the community dislikes the uploads, we should extend the deadline. On a final note, a new logo may still be in-order for those still using Monobook as per my previous comment on a past logo thread. Ryan PM 05:36, January 2, 2011 (UTC)

I've undone that change, as we aren't in a position to do that just yet. Because we have to remove the "Around Wikia's network" line in order to add that, I contacted Wikia about it a few weeks ago. This was their response:

Feedback on logos - 1. Not RuneScape themed; 2. Text not RuneScape themed; 3. Text hard to see, background non-transparent; 4. Background non-transparent, text slightly hard to read; 5. RuneScape, not RS, "RS" "WIKI & the sword seem awkwardly disjointed; 6. non-transparent background, text squished; 7. non-transparent background, text squished; 8. non-transparent background, wiki text doesn't match well; 9. text hard to read, runes awkwardly positioned; 10. text too futuristic; 11. Seems a bit too simple and text too thin :P ; 12. Non-transparent background, Don't really like the font. --- I'd like one similar to 5., but says RuneScape instead. Fiove's logos are, by scores, the best submitted so far. I especially like the second logo. However, I think the font could be better. Perhaps a font meant to emulate handwriting? I <3 14,15 and 18 - I think they would look amazing with the new layout that we have created. If the swords on number 15 seems to follow the usual copyright issue that always gets brought up and ends these threads in flames, I would then prefer number 14 :). Rhys ^Talk 08:44, January 6, 2011 (UTC)

According to this, the Wikipedia globe has a copyright on it by the Wikimedia Foundation. In short, we can't use the globe. ʞooɔ 13:14, January 6, 2011 (UTC)

13 & 16 but this website is full of stuff copyrighted to jagex, and theres probably many difrent versions of the globe. And its not exavtly the same, and im not trying to say i created it, or trying to make munny from it. iRader 15:19, January 6, 2011 (UTC)

I meant that a lot of other wikis edit the Wikipedia globe into a logo - an example is the WikiSimpsons logo. As for the new one, it's much better with the addition of the Stone, although I think it needs a background, just to avoid having a huge white space around it. We are allowed to use Jagex's copyrighted work because we have obtained permission from them to use it. There may be other versions of the wikipedia globe, but that doesn't mean that they are legal. It doesn't matter if you are not claiming ownership - it's still a derivative work, and someone (Wikia, which is unaffiliated with Wikimedia) will make money off of it, not that that matters. ʞooɔ 18:40, January 6, 2011 (UTC)

I really like 4 and 12, but 16 and 15 are close second. But I'm sure 16 won't be able to be used due to copyrights as stated, but maybe a combination of 16 and 22 together? Hmm. Comment - I don't see why we're making such a fuss about the legal issues of the logo when the very background of this page was created by Jagex as well... I'm personally thinking that an alpha (transparency) background should be a requirement, as the ones forgoing that tend to look amateurish and out of place. Number 14/15 looks pretty good while not using RuneScape's actual logo. Number 26 also looks good, but number 27 shows why the RuneScape logo looks so much better... Comment - The descriptions should be changed to be of a neutral point of view, describing what the images contain/reflect. Some aren't clear or contain a comical approach to the submission. Ryan PM 03:44, January 10, 2011 (UTC)

My reccomendations were given on December 29th and it really IS a big deal. I dont expect you to have a full understanding of market research but you can't justify using the results from the survey as it stands. It is deeply flawed. As I said in my reccomendations it should be ONE questions where people can tick up to a maximum of 3 (or possibly 5 as there are so many choices) from the list. Good luck pulling anything meaningful out of the results without proper software. I will be downloading a copy of the raw data myself when it closes and be prepared to have to argue your case if my view of the results differs to your own. -- Mercifull ^(Talk) 10:52, January 12, 2011 (UTC)
