Some of you may have noticed, the wiki now has a completely redesigned, fresh Community Portal! Az and I (mostly Az) have been working on it for some time, and finally thought it needed to be implemented. Please check it out! This thread is mainly an announcement, but also a chance to comment, suggest and query about the new design.
Our main goal was to make the Community Portal (CP) more popular by making it much more appealing and useful. That was Phase 1, but there is a Phase 2. We need your help to make the new CP popular, by spreading the word and utilising and using its new features. I will also be making other changes, including an addition to the site notice, and making the CP link more prominent in the Welcome notice. The CP should be the place where members of the community can come and find out how they can help out. If everyone makes good use of this, it'll be a success.
Secondly, there are quite a few suggestions that we didn't get time to implement. Below are the suggestions that we planned to implement but didn't get a chance to. (Please add to the list any more suggestions you may have, and strike them when they are done)
- Colours for new boxes #228899 #bb22ee
- Projects & WikiGuilds - A box outlining projects/wikiguilds that can be joined that require assistance?
- Events - A box where the community can list events they have planned themselves, with a link to more info.
- Featured stubs/Stub of the Month - First discussed at Forum:Stub of the moment. See forum for more ideas/info.
- Counter Vandalism Unit - Suggested by Telos
- Category:Speedy deletion candidates - Suggested by Telos
- more...
Please, if you have any ideas, queries, comments, suggestions, etc, write it here. By the way, if you want to attempt to create one of the above suggestions, be bold and implement it if you think it's pretty neat! Chicken7 >talk 05:15, March 30, 2010 (UTC)

- Can we please show some sense, and either oppose for a reason, or stop being a dick?

- We don't have that page, I looked for it yesterday, and only found it here: http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Don%27t_be_a_dick. Anyway it was just for fun, and chicken knows that. TCKTVEOrwojy 05:36, March 30, 2010 (UTC)
- We need it, and it's not really a good example to be setting on the Yew Grove.

Support - I love it Twig Talk https://i.imgur.com/772kZGs.png 05:34, March 30, 2010 (UTC)
Comment - 3 things. 1, I'm not offended by the above, but maybe it wasn't the best place for a comment like that . 2, If we created DBAD, it should be DBAN (noob), although this isn't the place for that. 3, no need to support or oppose, as the CP has already been implemented. We're looking for discussion and suggestions. But thanks for the positive feedback. Cheers, Chicken7 >talk 05:40, March 30, 2010 (UTC)
Wonderful - I love the new community portal. Much easier on the eye and more useful, too. I'll probably use the CP a whole lot more with this update. I especially like how RuneScape:Birthdays is actually being used. Great job! Suggestions for improvement: include the Counter Vandalism Unit, Category:Speedy deletion candidates, and perhaps updates on the RSWP. ~ Sentry Telos Talk 07:58, March 30, 2010 (UTC)
- Thanks for the suggestions; I added 2 of them above. About the RSWP, there is already a box on the main page showing various works from that. Or were you thinking about a "Recent Changes" box of the RSWP with new articles, etc? Cheers, Chicken7 >talk 11:11, March 30, 2010 (UTC)
This page rocks my socks - and perhaps your socks too, or are you barefoot? Tollerach hates SoF 19:32, March 30, 2010 (UTC)
Love it! - Very colorful and organized. My only small suggestion concerns the numbers left of the charts in each box. They look like red links, which makes the page look a bit incomplete. Maybe it's just me though. Tien 21:29, March 30, 2010 (UTC)
- Done - The red numbers on the side have been changed to match the colour of the box they are in. Is that alright, or do you think a solid black would be better? Cheers, Chicken7 >talk 00:11, March 31, 2010 (UTC)
Comment - I like it, although the chatheads for the Maintenance and Content sections seem a bit sad. :\ --Iiii I I I 21:33, March 30, 2010 (UTC)
- Reply - Lol, you mean they look disappointing-sad or emotional-sad? Chicken7 >talk 00:11, March 31, 2010 (UTC)
Looks good - I agree that the tallies on the left shouldn't be red, and maybe just consider getting rid of the right column in favour of wikilinking the title of that box itself? (e.g. just link the text "Yew Grove" instead of a separate "Click Here" way over to the right) Endasil (Talk) @ 23:24, March 30, 2010 (UTC)
- Reply - Maybe. What about if we made the "Click here" one of those Wikia green buttons, instead of a Wikilink. I've done some testing here. A button stands out much more than a link, and would get more clicks. I'm going to change the "Add an item" link in the noticeboard to a button. What do you guys think? Cheers, Chicken7 >talk 00:11, March 31, 2010 (UTC)
- I use Monobook, and I don't see the buttons in your sandbox... User:Azliq7
- The required class must not be present in the CSS files for Monobook. The relevant code in wikia-ui.css is:

a.wikia-button, span.wikia-button a { background-color: #093; background-image: -moz-linear-gradient(top, #093 20%, #006722 70%); background-image: -webkit-gradient(linear, 0% 20%, 0% 70%, from(#093), to(#006722)); border: 1px solid #beddbe; border-radius: 7px; box-shadow: 0 1px 0 #2c802c, 0 -1px 0 #2c802c, 1px 0 0 #2c802c, -1px 0 0 #2c802c; color: #FFF; cursor: pointer; display: inline-block; font: bold 12px/17px "Lucida Grande", sans-serif; height: 17px; margin: 0; padding: 0 7px; text-decoration: none; white-space: nowrap; -moz-border-radius: 7px; -webkit-border-radius: 7px; -moz-box-shadow: 0 0 0 1px #2c802c; -webkit-box-shadow: 0 1px 0 #2c802c, 0 -1px 0 #2c802c, 1px 0 0 #2c802c, -1px 0 0 #2c802c; } /* Big Buttons*/ a.wikia-button.big, span.wikia-button.big a { height: 30px; font-size: 15px; line-height: 30px; padding: 0 15px; } /* IE Styles */ a.wikia-button, span.wikia-button a { filter:progid:DXImageTransform.Microsoft.Gradient(GradientType=0, StartColorStr="#FF009933", EndColorStr="#FF006722"); outline: 1px solid #2c802c\9; overflow: visible; width: auto; } /* Visited, Hover and Active states */ a.wikia-button:visited, span.wikia-button a:visited { color: #FFF; } a.wikia-button:hover, span.wikia-button a:hover { text-decoration: none; text-shadow: #000 0 1px 1px; } a.wikia-button:active, span.wikia-button a:active { color: #FFF; background-image: -moz-linear-gradient(top, #006722 20%, #093 70%); background-image: -webkit-gradient(linear, 0% 20%, 0% 70%, from(#006722), to(#093)); }
- There were some other rules that applied this to all form buttons but I removed them. There are probably other things with the wikia-button class so this would still end up changing other things besides the buttons on RS:CP. Some users have disliked the button styling so I don't know if it would be desirable to restyle all buttons on Monobook. --Quarenon Talk 17:04, April 1, 2010 (UTC)

Section headers? what to do? - Since I try to stalk certain links on the CP, I used to use the TOC section header to jump to a specific section a lot. I was wondering if there is any way to get a TOC and jump to section links without messing up this nicely formatted page. I don't think we should just stick plain ole section headers in there, but if we could do it somehow without messing up the current layout I'd be all for it. Does anyone know if there's any way to do this??? Tollerach hates SoF 21:52, April 1, 2010 (UTC)
