Forums: Yew Grove > Proposing ZebbyBot

Hi I want to run a bot on an account named ZebbyBot. It's basically AmauriceBot (see Forum:Proposing AmauriceBot for GE updates) modified to only update specific items. It will update about 100 items heavily used for skilling. Since AmauriceBot only updates if it needs to be updated there won't be any major conflict between ZebbyBot and AmauriceBot. On days when AmauriceBot doesn't run I can run the full update if need be. -- Zebby D 02:18, December 9, 2009 (UTC)

Question(s) - Why is this needed when we already have AmauriceBot? "Since AmauriceBot only updates if it needs to be updated" - When else would you want to update? Ancient talisman.png Oil4 Talk 10:30, December 9, 2009 (UTC)

Well, Maybe AMaurice is at work, on vacation (holiday), or perhaps he has the flu. Maybe he just doesn't feel like running his bot on any given day and I want the GEMW to be updated. That'd be when I'd run it. It's really all about redundency. There almost can't be too many GEMW update bots as long as the owners of those bots take the time to see if they need to be run (which I would). Also, my modification to AmauriceBot can update specific items (see the current list at User:ZebbyBot). So if I just want the nifty Wikia skill calculators to be up to day but don't need to update the whole GEMW I can (and generally will). I also throttled the bot so that it only updates one item every 30 seconds. --Zebby D 19:22, December 9, 2009 (UTC)
Doesn't AzBot also do GEMW updates when AmauriceBot isn't running? Ancient talisman.png Oil4 Talk 19:41, December 9, 2009 (UTC)
I don't know. Maybe so maybe not. I'm not sure that it's relevant though. Heck, if those bots are doing the job I won't. But on those rare days when they are not active I'll be able to update stuff. Or maybe I'll beat them too it and they can take the day off. --Zebby D 19:45, December 9, 2009 (UTC)
Hmm, AzBot's task 7 is also updating GEMW pages. And what about SmackBot? He also updates 'em. Ancient talisman.png Oil4 Talk 19:48, December 9, 2009 (UTC)
I don't know, what is your point? I reassert that redundancy in the GEMW update bots is a good thing. I'm not going to run the bot if prices are up to date. There's nothing more annoying than outdated prices on the GEMW. -- Zebby D20:00, December 9, 2009 (UTC)
I'm just saying that we already have 2 bots that are running, and 1 that can run whenever it's needed. Why would we need another one? Ancient talisman.png Oil4 Talk 20:50, December 9, 2009 (UTC)

Comment - Both GEMW updating bots seem to be operating just fine (see Special:Contributions/SmackBot and Special:Contributions/AmauriceBot), and as Oli said, AzBot is available when they are not operational. Weird gloop.png @Gaz#7521 20:07, December 9, 2009 (UTC)

Comment - I believe that there are indeed two bots running GE updates. If need be, User:TLULbot, which is also based on AmauriceBot's code, can run the updates. I don't think that we need any more bots for the task, seeing as there are two running and two available for backup. I'm a regular user and I approve this message.  TLUL Talk - Contribs 22:21, December 9, 2009 (UTC)
