Recently we've had some debate about these pages. While we want to make progress with this project and complete the pages, it’s also important to recognise that JMods are entitled to some privacy and that some of the things we are doing now might be intruding upon that. I propose the following guidelines for JMod pages, which would be added to a new section on RS:PDDA:
- Identifying real-life information such as real names, locations etc should not be included on pages. This information is not relevant to players and is insensitive to JMods' privacy.
- Only official, Jagex based sources should be used for the pages (i.e. RuneScape forum/newposts; Twitch/YouTube videos, JMods' Twitter/Reddit posts). Other sources would not be allowed: the notable change being that LinkedIn would be disallowed, whereas it is currently used as a source on many of the pages. The problem with using sources like LinkedIn is that they can contain a lot of sensitive real life information such as job history, in real-life location etc.
- Only exceptions would be for Jagex staff whose real names and real life information are well known, e.g. the Gower brothers, and people in admin/management roles.
Another point for discussion is whether we want to include any non-identifying real life information about JMods on the pages or if they should only include information about JMods’ roles in Jagex and RuneScape. JMods will sometimes share personal information about themselves freely with the community (e.g. Mod Shauny shared on twitter that he had got engaged and that he is expecting a baby with his fiancé). I have no proposal for this, as I can see both sides of the argument. On one hand, concerns about privacy don’t apply when information is being publically shared in this manner, and it may be of interest to some players. On the other, documenting this information is not very encyclopaedic and may cause the pages to become filled with trivial fluff like "Mod Ana’s favourite colour is red".

Make a policy - we need to use common sense here and show some respect for the JMods. There’s a big difference between making personal information about yourself public on a site like LinkedIn to having that information connected to your work “alter-ego” and made available on a site like this wiki, which reaches the vast majority of RuneScape players.

Make a policy - I feel that only things related to RuneScape and Jagex should be on their pages. (Their position in the company, projects for the game that they were/are involved in, etc.) If a JMod chooses to reveal personal information on a social media site, that information should stay on that social media site. There is no need to document it here as it has nothing to do with RuneScape.

Comment - I feel that anything they post to the public is fair game, although I agree with the part about the information not being relevant to the game. I think a good compromise would be to include very basic information like real names and home states. Make a policy I believe that we should respect their overall privacy to not give information out to people who might try to do harm with the personal information. Any included information that they have chosen to reveal should come from the general media public sites. General media meaning social media sites, not including LinkedIn which is purposed for professional networking. If any JMods request any other information restricted we should respect that. As for irrelevant or trivial information being added, if the information is not told from their official capacity it should be excluded. As for the Jagex Wiki that has not been updated in two years. If JMods are requesting for personal information not to be put out there we should respect that not put it on another site. Respect Privacy - Even if some of the JMods don't mind some personal details being out there, it would create an awful lot of inconsistencies if we posted some info on some of them and not on others. I propose we limit it to their real name (and only when that is listed at jagex itself, if we have to search for it it should be off limits), and their time of employment at Jagex. At most. Make a policy - Per IsobelJ and MAGE-KIL-R, the JMod pages should only include information about their work on RuneScape and other things they've done for Jagex. Their real name is also irrevelant, since the playerbase only knows their mod name usually, with some exceptions. Make a policy - per many above. I think full/real name shouldn't be included, moreso due to relevance rather than privacy (though that is still a factor). The majority of players will know Jmods by their mod names and refer to them as such; real names are extraneous. Degen makes a good point, we need to make pages consistent which means taking the stricter option. I think a basic timeline of their record at Jagex is acceptable (when they were employed/promoted/relocated/left if applicable). However the essence of the articles should be about how they contribute(d) to RuneScape - how they interact with the game/players and what content they helped developed - I think we need to be more extensive in those respects. Support - I'd add the exception that we can use the shortened names as an alias and/or redirect that are, or at least were, listed on the rs site, e.g. Max T, John A, etc. User:Cqm/Signature
Creating a new policy - Given the consensus of this discussion, it may make sense to have a policy for these pages alone rather than adding it under RS:PDDA. I suggest taking Wikipedia's approach and enacting a biographies of living persons policy on the wiki, and instead merge RS:PDDA into that. I've written a draft version of what this might look like here.
