I know we've had discussions about it a million times, and I'm not going to try and propose any new solutions since we have no control over the ad space. However, someone posted a petition on the RuneScape Forums to remove us from the list of recognized fan sites. While this on its own might not be a big deal, on page 3 you can see that Mod Edu is "looking into" the "issue."

I made a post on page 11, but I thought it would be nice to let the community know. I would encourage all of you to post your thoughts there since the author of the thread and their supporters seem to be severely misinformed about us. Andrew talk 04:39, September 5, 2011 (UTC)

Comment - Well, that is a bad sign. It really does suck that we can't do anything about the ads that are placed here and that all Wikia cares about is getting absolutely as much money as they possibly can. I really don't know if there's anything we can do besides report individual ads on a case-by-case basis through Special:Contact, but that's just one of the problems with being hosted by a for-profit company like Wikia. Not sure what really could be done. Suppa chuppa Talk 04:45, September 5, 2011 (UTC)

Just frustrating that Mod Edu doesn't seem to be aware of our situation like Mod Hohbein was. I find it insulting that he would even offer to "look into" this when there clearly isn't anything to look into. Mod Hohbein gave us silver status because of our ads, meaning he knew about them and still recognized us (albeit at a lower level). I would encourage you to post your thoughts on that thread. Andrew talk 04:52, September 5, 2011 (UTC)
I will once I've read through the entire thing. I also can't believe what some people have said, the OP claims that s/he was an administrator of the site so that she knows that sites can control which ads they display. Obviously doesn't know much about Wikia-hosted wikis as we have absolutely no control over that. And another user who posted "This is why one of the biggest other fan sites does not have any platinum, gold etc status as they allow their members to discuss freely botting which is against Runescape rules." Couldn't really be further from the truth. Suppa chuppa Talk 04:54, September 5, 2011 (UTC)
Also, lol at the second comment here. Suppa chuppa Talk 05:13, September 5, 2011 (UTC)

Comment - I guess it'd be a stupid question to ask Jagex to talk to Wikia.

We tried that before, but nothing came out of it. Suppa chuppa Talk 04:57, September 5, 2011 (UTC)
On which end? Jagex's or Wikia's?

I'm not aware of the full details, but Cook might have more info on that. Suppa chuppa Talk 05:06, September 5, 2011 (UTC)
Question - How much does wikia actually care about having RWT ads showing up on the website? Spamnub 05:38, September 5, 2011 (UTC)
How much does Wikia the company care about the ads? They probably don't give a damn. And that's our main problem, really. Suppa chuppa Talk 05:42, September 5, 2011 (UTC)

Why do you people keep calling yourselves admins when you post? It would almost seem as if you are trying to impress people, or make them think that being admin is like being ranked or something.--Degenret01 05:40, September 5, 2011 (UTC)

Mainly because they don't understand that admins can't get rid of the ads. Suppa chuppa Talk 05:41, September 5, 2011 (UTC)
Only two people did <.< Come on man, not really relevant to the issue here. ):

I said I'm not a admin. Twig Talk https://i.imgur.com/772kZGs.png 05:48, September 5, 2011 (UTC)
I only did because the OP is clearly misinformed and needed to understand from the point of view of someone whom they believe has the power to do something that we are all powerless. I have no intention of trying to impress anyone, nor would I have any reason to. Just trying to defend the wiki. Andrew talk 06:11, September 5, 2011 (UTC)
I don't see how being an admin on a rs fansite is much of an impressive role, more like a no lifer nerd thing imo. Wink User:TyA/sig 14:45, September 5, 2011 (UTC)
Degenret, I'm sure you can understand why saying that one is one of the few admins on a famous fansite makes them at least a bit more credible than some guy who's just a reader. User:C Teng/sig 18:01, September 5, 2011 (UTC)

Comment - Worst case scenario, we can always bring up this previously failed (due to no consensus) Yew Grove discussion. Hofmic Talk 06:22, September 5, 2011 (UTC)

Comment - Oh boy. Potentially, this could be rather problematic, seeing that some noobs support the petition and previously unaware of the ads people have now learnt of them. Fortunately, most people seem to be in our favour, especially after page 11 or whereever it was that Soldier and Suppa and others posted. Nevertheless, I find the petition highly insulting, as with Mod Edu's comment, as Jagex supposedly knows that we cannot control the ads. In the thread, Suppa made a good point; as users, we work with an ad-free wiki thus is it difficult for us to report any wrong ads. Not that it would make much difference, of course. Ugh, stupid laptop. I'll continue this later on my own computer. 18px-Avatar.png Fswe1 26px-Brassica_Prime_symbol.svg.png 08:29, September 5, 2011 (UTC)
Okay, here we go. On a side note, I've replied to that horrible thread. Anyway, is there anything we can do? Sure, we could re-open a discussion to change hosts, but that will, I am 99% sure, be closed without consensus again. And now, my fingers hurt.. 18px-Avatar.png Fswe1 26px-Brassica_Prime_symbol.svg.png 08:58, September 5, 2011 (UTC)

Comment - I found it funny how OP is gone already. Santa hat Powers38 おはようヾ(´・ω・`) 11:25, September 5, 2011 (UTC)

I don't wanr to sound stupid, but what is OP? 18px-Avatar.png Fswe1 26px-Brassica_Prime_symbol.svg.png 12:07, September 5, 2011 (UTC)
Original poster. She will probably continue to thank the supporters and completely ignore us.
  1. REDIRECT User:Urbancowgurl777/Signature 12:19, September 5, 2011 (UTC)
Oh, I see. And yes, probably. No matter, she has no arguments whereas the opposition has a lot. 18px-Avatar.png Fswe1 26px-Brassica_Prime_symbol.svg.png 12:57, September 5, 2011 (UTC)

Comment - The RuneScape Wiki used WIKIAN OPPOSITION BARRAGE! Its super effective! OP fainted.

More seriously, I like the show of solidarity on our part. And remember to follow Help:Bad ads if you ever see a RWT/botting ad. Weird gloop @Gaz#7521 14:08, September 5, 2011 (UTC)

Meh - I don't see why it needs to be such a big deal. I doubt the list redirects anyone. Fansites spread by word of mouth in game mainly. Like omg guys, we can't say "runescape.wikia.com" anymore. That sucks...oh wait...it's partially censored right now. Psh, big deal. User:Haloolah123/Sig 15:07, September 5, 2011 (UTC)

Being able to say our name or not isn't really our biggest concern. Being on the fansite list really gets us nothing that we need or that helps us. What does concern me though is the first ten pages of support against us. I mean, do so many people really view us like that? It can't really be a good thing. Suppa chuppa Talk 16:56, September 5, 2011 (UTC)
I'm with Halo. The first ten pages of support are inconsequential in a world where youth are incapable of synthesizing their own thoughts and opinions. This, of course, begets a situation where a crazy whacko can present a one-sided argument and garner a broad array of adherents -- until, of course, someone more sane (exempli gratia Andrew) comes along and presents the counterargument. --LiquidTalk 17:03, September 5, 2011 (UTC)

Those people are morons. Mod Edu's comment was most likely to get them to stop complaining, it's been done before. Not much to worry about, but still, they are morons. User:C Teng/sig 17:59, September 5, 2011 (UTC)

I would have to adgree with you Teng but the most annoying part is those people whom just put "Support" and thats it. Twig Talk https://i.imgur.com/772kZGs.png 20:08, September 5, 2011 (UTC)

Closed - The RSOF thread this was made is response to has been locked, our position on the matter is clear, no further discussion will achieve anything. It was great to see so many Wiki readers defend us, so I'll take this as a positive.--Degenret01 20:58, September 5, 2011 (UTC)
