The present...
This forum thread is a redo of my previous one. I am applying for the role of IRC admin, to be able to help out moderating it and changing the topic sometimes. I was not granted this privilege after having gotten my administrator role, and thus require a separate thread to request it. The previous discussion got closed because of lack of discussion, so with this thread I hope to hear more from you. Thank you for considering. ThePsionic 08:02, December 8, 2015 (UTC)

Ok I'm gonna say it - Why do you want to be an operator? There are plenty already and last I heard it didn't really need any moderation. Haidro (talk) 21:57, December 8, 2015 (UTC)
- He might need to put a joke in the topic. MolMan 21:59, December 8, 2015 (UTC)
- You won't believe the amount of jokes I saved up for the topic. ThePsionic 18:15, December 10, 2015 (UTC)
sure - i don't see why not as most other admins are so Star Talk 22:33, December 8, 2015 (UTC)
Support - If you're an admin then sure. On a side note, I didn't know you were an admin... I think I've been gone for too long :( Ajraddatz (Talk) 00:22, December 10, 2015 (UTC)
- You've got Ajr's support that means... ...nothing. He supports literally everything. MolMan 00:23, December 10, 2015 (UTC)
- Good enough for me ThePsionic 18:15, December 10, 2015 (UTC)
Question/Comment What exactly is the role of that type of admin? How often is the role actually used on this wiki? --Deltaslug (talk) 18:06, December 10, 2015 (UTC)
- The role itself doesn't have any impact on the wiki itself. It is simply to grant adminship on our IRC channel, which comes down to kicking or banning bad people and changing the topic of the channel. ThePsionic 18:08, December 10, 2015 (UTC)
- It's not actually an on-wiki role. It is basically just an admin in the irc channel. We typically just idle at the top of the userlist like kings/queens and add jokes to the topic. User:TyA/sig 18:09, December 10, 2015 (UTC)
- So the role is more or less useless and there isn't much point in giving it out? --Deltaslug (talk) 18:10, December 10, 2015 (UTC)

Gaz is an evil person for making you do this - I left for like 5 years and was given op without any vetting process or questions asked. I left for another year and I still have op. No one ever uses op for anything serious anyway. --Sαcrε Fι (edit my sig) | (edit my user page) 08:54, December 11, 2015 (UTC)
Closed - There is consensus for ThePsionic to be given +O in the IRC. I will note that the IRC already having several operators is no longer considered an appropriate argument.
Pertaining the user who questioned the need for this request, per proposal 4, wiki administrators have to specifically request IRC operator status during the RfA to be automatically granted it without discussion. For this particular RfA, the request was made, but no consensus was reached, requiring a separate discussion. Users who had RfA/RfBs passed prior to the implementation of that thread were grandfathered in (and last I checked May 29, 2007, so old it predated dedicated subpages for RfAs, is before August 15, 2011) negating the need for a discussion. Whether or not current operators use their tools appropriately is not germane to this discussion. --LiquidTalk 05:13, December 14, 2015 (UTC)
