Wikia has decided to put their newest incarnation of the Visual Editor into Labs, as shown in this blog on Community Central. Would we like to try it? You can look at it on the Community Test Wiki. Source editors will see no change.

A similar thread on this topic happened about 2 and a half years ago and can be found at Forum:Try the new editor.

Go for it - as a user of the source editor. It might be helpful to the newer people. User:TyA/sig 03:31, December 4, 2013 (UTC)

Even if I had access to the VE, I wouldn't use it. 18px-Avatar.png Fswe1 26px-Brassica_Prime_symbol.svg.png 07:30, December 4, 2013 (UTC)

Comment - Before we implement it, I'd like to add the following to MediaWiki:Wikia.js due to lack of CC-BY-SA notice on new layout:

visualCopy: function () {
    // add function name to array
    rswiki.oasis.scripts[rswiki.oasis.scripts.length] = 'visualcopy';
    $( '<div>' )
        .attr( 'class', 've-init-mw-viewPageTarget-tool ve-ui-icon-copy' )
        .css( {
            'background-image': 'url( )',
            'padding-left': '60px'
        } )
	.toggle( function () {
		$( '#ve-init-mw-copy' ).show();
	}, function () {
		$( '#ve-init-mw-copy' ).hide();
            $( '<span>' )
                .attr( 'class', 've-init-mw-viewPageTarget-tool-label' )
                .text( 'Copyright' )
            $( '<div>' )
                .attr( {
                    'class': 've-init-mw-viewPageTarget-toolbar-betaNotice',
                    'id': 've-init-mw-copy'
                } )
                .css( 'display', 'none' )
                    $( '<span>' )
                            'Contributions licensed as ',
                            $( '<a>' )
                                .attr( 'href', '' )
                                .text( 'CC-BY-SA' ),
                            $( '<br>' ),
                            'You do not have ',
                            $( '<a>' )
                                .attr( 'href', '/wiki/RuneScape:Ownership' )
                                .text( 'ownership' ),
                            ' of your edits.',
                            $( '<br>' ),
                            $( '<br>' ),
                            'Users should never revert, edit or sign articles or files in an attempt to express ownership.'
	.insertBefore( '.ve-ui-icon-help' );

However, I can't seem to get a click function to work at the moment (maybe because it's early in the morning). So some help would be appreciated. Ryan PM 12:09, December 4, 2013 (UTC)

I think it would be helpful if you included an click function Wink. I added it in and made a few small changes. Seems to be working fine for me. User:Cqm/Signature
Scrap that. It still needs a handler for hiding the popup, as well as an event or something to listen for before loading. User:Cqm/Signature
Figured a better way of doing it (toggle). Made the changes already. I didn't include click at first because I was having no luck with it. Ryan PM 04:02, December 5, 2013 (UTC)
I've just received word that we can't implement this due to it being a new feature and wikia wanting data with as little skew as possible. However, MediaWiki:Copyrightwarning is displayed in the save/publish popup, along with an edit summary prompt, which is the same message as used in monobook. Why we can't use the same message as the oasis source editor is beyond me, but it's not necessary to have this script when we have a system message instead. As such I'll be removing the script from Wikia.js. User:Cqm/Signature

Support - This is meant to be a great improvement on the old visual editor and will hopefully remove all the associated bugs. However, communitytest does still retain the old visual editor when using the "classic editor" option so I don't think we can remove the abusefilter for RTE errors and CblairBot's rte fixes just yet. User:Cqm/Signature

Comment - I've gone ahead and activated VE through WikiaLabs. Any discussion about it and concerns should be placed below. Thank you, Ryan PM 14:46, December 11, 2013 (UTC)

There's a bug with changing wikipedia links to wikimon/wikihelp. A fix is meant to be pushed for that in January (I don't think there's going to be any tech updates until after christmas now). User:Cqm/Signature
We can have Cblairbot fix that though, right? We never use those links anyways. MolMan 17:04, December 13, 2013 (UTC)
Use {{wp}}. 18px-Avatar.png Fswe1 26px-Brassica_Prime_symbol.svg.png 17:41, December 13, 2013 (UTC)
That won't fix the hundreds or thousands of Wikipedia links that already exist, just waiting to be changed by VE. MolMan 17:42, December 13, 2013 (UTC)
I'm told this bug is fixed as of two days ago. User:Cqm/Signature

Late support, and note that anyone who doesn't like it can disable it for themselves :D Ajraddatz (Talk) 03:20, December 13, 2013 (UTC)

Comment - I personally think the new Visual Editor is worse than the old one, but maybe it's easier for new editors, I dunno. Wahisietel rejuvenated chathead Wahisietel (Talk) Quest map icon 18:12, December 13, 2013 (UTC)

Comment - Really? The new VE not only is more clumsy and actually hard to use, but making it the auto-selected way to edit when you click "edit page"? That's just...really annoying.Ice Rush12Zaros symbolTalkHiscores 07:01, December 20, 2013 (UTC)

In reality, that's no different than the old visual editor. By default the RTE would be loaded first with the option of switching to source. However, you can disable the visual editors in Special:Preferences. User:Cqm/Signature
Pity we can't just disable the new one. Temujin 12:08, December 21, 2013 (UTC)

Closed - The visual editor has been enabled, and discussion died down. Any bug reports should be directed to wikia. User:Cqm/Signature
